Hello,
Yesterday I sat on a CK20 at my local dealers. I went their to buy some parts for my DK45 & Wheel Horse. I liked it a lot! Would a CK20 be overkill for mowing a 2 acre lawn? I am thinking about increasing my lawn to 3 acres in the future.
The dealer recomended a 3pt hitch finish mower instead of a belly mower. Mainly because of trying to remove the mower. He thought that a rear mount would do just as nice of a job as a belly mount. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Charlie

Charlie

There are many threads on TBN about RFM and MMM. I believe the finish from both mowers is good. I prefer to have the mower where I can see it without looking back.

Here is a thread about the comparison.

I would say there are advantages to both. The MMM is easier to maneuver around things in the yard and you don't have to watch behind you. The RFM is much easier to remove, however, the MMM on the CK20 will lock in the up position and allow you to use the rear PTO as well. There will be less clearance with the MMM on. They will both do an excellent job, but for me, I would prefer RFM because it's easier to maintain. The MMM is not too difficult to get on and off, with wheels that turn to move it out from under the tractor, but that's not as easy as the RFM. I think generally you'd spend less for a good RFM as well, but you can get a good price on the MMM at tractor purchase time. See if you can try both out before you buy. If they're close enough by, maybe you can try it on your property. John

ROFL, KrazyKioti vs Henro Two tractors! Go for it KrazyKioti!

Actually, 3 acres would be better dealt with by a CK20 MMM esp if somewhat level.

OK Don, give us your rationale for that one please. Don't just leave us hanging with an opinon and not a why for! Inquiring minds want to know what you think. I know you do, I've read your posts. LOL John

There are definitely advantages and disadvantages to both. My RFM was great when I had a yard that was flat, very few obsticles, (trees, swingsets, etc.), sharp turning can be problematic for getting a nice cut. The biggest problem I had was calculating a tight turn and compensating for the length of the mower. Also mowing at dusk or dark is more difficult. I would recommend that you either use someone's RFM or try one out from a dealer before you buy.

I'm glad to see someone challenge Kenro with his Kubota 2910 and BX22. However a DK45 and CK20 might not be fair... the funny part is they probally cost the same or less, rofl.

Nearly every yard I have ever seen has some type obstacle within it, this is where a MMM would manuever much better then a RFM. Also remember whatever your ground engaging implements do when you go over bumps and dips... the RFM will do as well it will be no different. However if you a nice square clear level lawn then go for it.

I've heard people talk about the compatibility between the MMM and backhoe. Can you use both? What I heard was the brackets for the MMM got in the way of the subframe. Is this true, can the brackets be removed, or is there any other way around it. I've been leaning towards the MMM, but would also want a backhoe at some point.

JUST MY OPINION.... and I realize that everyone has one.

I hate mowing... I love the looks of a clean field or a well mantained yard, but I hate mowing.

I would prefer a rear mount mower over a belly mower. The rear mount mower is much eiser to do the mantainence thing with. The mid mount might do a better job as far as going around trees and buildings and stuff. If I could, I would get a 16 foot wide mower so that one trip over the place and I would be finished with it. But that won't happen.

I consider the MMM a good machine for what it does. I also have the opinion that the MMM is too much trouble to remove when you need to go do something else with the tractor.

A rear mount mower will fit all tractors within the same catagory. the MMM will be much more difficult if not impossible to put onto a differant machine.

Who ever invents grass that will only grow an inch or so tall will be a millionair.

I have to agree with you Virgil. Mowing is probably my least favorite thing to do with my tractor. Unless it's hogging down a bunch of stuff I've really hated for a long time, the rest of it is just boring. I'd much rather be loading, pulling down trees or something like that that is much more interesting. John
