I was casually browsing around Sears yesterday and noticed one of those combination lawn mowers/chipper/shredder/bagger things.

It really LOOKED LIKE a lawn mower with a chute added to the top of the deck and an exhaust hose out the side to a bag - OK, thats what it IS.

So, on a larger scale; Has anyone here cut a hole in the top of a brush hog deck and put a chute on it ?
How did it work out ?
DO you still have enough fingers to type with ?
(-:

I know I've seen the thread on lowering a brush hog slowly onto a pile of brush to chip it, was just wondering about the chute. I'm only interested in SMALL quantities, the Jinma chipper would NOT be a good investment for me.

Brush Hog blades pivot. They are made to fold in if they hit something too big. The vibrations of using that would be huge. Think of the insides of a chipper/shreader...the shreader has swinging hammer blades for the small stuff, but if you put too large an item in there it'll bog doun or plug.

That thing at Sears reminds me of snake oil: advertised as able to do a hundred things, but actually able to do none.

Yea, I have run over small piles of twigs or leaves and with the brush hog and chopped them up to some degree, but to be honest, I don't see it being very effective, efficient, or consistent.
