Hello everyone,

I bought this finish mower as part of a tractor a few days ago and while using it today the nut on one of the pulleys came loose and sent it spinning- in the process the belt was shredded.

Now the problem I have is that I have no idea who makes this mower. I can't find a name or serial number anywhere. The guy I bought it from has no idea who makes it. I took the belt off and can get a measurement and I was given a diagram on how the belts are routed but beyond that I'm stuck.

When I opened it up there was a lock washer, spring, pulley and nut loose. The pulley and nut were easy to put back, maybe the lock washer was for that nut? No idea where the spring goes or if it's broken and I have no idea how I'm going to put the belt back on when I get a new one. Do I have to remove where the PTO shaft turns the wheel?

Any help you can provide or if you recognize the mower and can point me to a manual, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Sean

attatched is my best guess from looking at your picture as to where the belt and spring go... the belt should be able to slide under the big drive pulley...

That appears to be a kingkutter mower. The diagram that Sean drew looks to be correct. When mine has lost a nut like that it ruined the tapered shaft on top of the spindle and the nut would not stay on without replacing the spindle. You can loosen the gear box mount in the front and pry it up and slip the belt on with out removing the whole gearbox. Tractor supply usually has the belt in my area. I use a Napa belt but am not where the mower is to check size. Hope this helps some. big dan

One other thing, when you go to change the belt you will have to either remove all gear box bolts from top plate or loosen one side of the gearbox plate and remove the other side to get enough clearance to get the belt past the main pulley at least I have to do that on my 6' mower (the pulley has a big knob on the bottom )... Then you can loosen the clamping nut (under the deck) on the adjustment pulley also releasing the double nutted tension adjustment to get the slack to install the new belt

It indeed looks like a King Kutter and you can download the owners manual from their website. It shows the belt routing and installation very clearly in the manual.

This would one of those times when I end up wishing I had thought far enough ahead, in this time of digital cameras, to have opened the machine up and taken a picture before using it.
