I have a JD 72 inch mid-mount mower that goes with my JD 4310. I have mowed with it once this season and started mowing for the second time tonight. 1st time I mowed this season, it seemed louder to me, but I wasn't quite sure it wasn't my imagination since I hadn't used it in some time. Tonight, it got really loud and felt like there was a vibration. I unhooked the mid-pto shaft and tried the mid pto on the tractor without the mower and I did not hear any noises. It kind of sounds like the blades are hitting something. I took the deck off tonight but was unable to work on it or flip the deck so I could check the underside. Has anyone else run into this? Could it be a bearing? As a note, the blades need sharpened, but I was waiting to have them sharpened until after I mowed a few times. The deck made the same noise, whether I was in the grass or started the deck in the garage. Thanks in advance for any ideas and inputs.

Check the blades under the mower it sounds like you have a loose blade or an idler pulley that has some loose bolts.I had the same thing happen to me last year when I hooked up my Bush-Hog for the first time. The vibration was so bad I thought It was going to take off or something. When I un-hooked the pto and lifted the Brush-Hog, low and behold the cutter blades were rusted frozen at a odd angle which caused everything to be out of balanced, check real good and you'll find the issue. Hope this helps?

Thanks. I will check the blades and pullies tonight. I am not very mechanical, so I hope it is something as simple as a bad blade. I'll let you know what I find.

Well it could be a blade loose, bent or a bad spindle. You should pull the belt off and then turn the spindles by hand to be sure they are working properly. If that is good then check the blades to see if they are bent or out of balance and check all the bolts. Hope this helps.

It could be a bad bearing. I had remover my MMM from my L118 Deere for the winter and hauled the mower to my grandpa's so he could sharpen the blades. Then I noticed that the blade on the left side was easy to move. It was a bad bearing. Im just glad I had it fixed before mowing season.:D Good luck!:)

Unfortunately, it's not my deck. Turns out the noise is coming from the pto. It won't turn the blades/shaft for the mower. I can turn the bades by hand. I am hoping it is not a really expensive repair. It is a hydro model.

possibility that a spindle has gone bad

Sorry about the last reply, didn't read the whole list, hopefully you just have to add some oil to the hydro clutch
