I use a fair amount of engine, transmission oils etc. With the uncertainty of availability and pricing , I bought it all last fall which turned out to be a good thing. Has anything really changed on that front this fall? Pricing is still at a much higher level than last fall for me though. I'm leaning towards doing it again, but then with fuel coming down, will oil follow in the spring? Heck, I've had a case of grease on backorder for months now- filling in with 10 packs from Amazon to get by.

It’s always a gamble nowadays - either the price goes up, or what you need isn’t in stock.

I generally stock up on stuff if I find it on sale. That way I don’t have to worry about running out for awhile. Even if items become more available, I doubt prices will come down for a few years.

I get about ten jugs of winter windshield washer fluid at the beginning of each Fall. Couldn’t find any at the end of last winter. Just found some a few weeks ago at almost double what I paid last year, but I bought a bunch.

Got a bunch of oil filters and synthetic oil stocked up for the same reasons.

You need to do the rest of us a favor and stock up.

Because IF you buy it now......it WILL go down.
IF you hold out in hopes it will go down....it will go UP.

Thats how it always works

So stock up now so the rest of us can enjoy lower prices :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Yeah, funny how that works. 🤨 Actually, other than gas/diesel I haven't noticed other petroleum products (motor oil, grease, etc.) ever coming down even when oil prices drop.

Totally agree, as soon as “they” figure out we still have to buy the stuff no matter what the price is, the price never goes back down.

It does go down. How ever not overnight. In 2020 I bought home heating oil at $1.28gal delivered. While everyone was worrying about masks and TP I filled up. Burns fine in all my machines.

About that same time I loaded up on motor oils and greases. All these things are things I use and dont have a shelf life.

I never understand people who do there own work going to the store for a single oil filter and 1 jug of oil. Buying cases of filters brings the price way down.

I ended up buying about 70% to get us through spring season and what ever will be will be.

Stocking up on oil for sure, filters, maybe maybe not. I generally keep one filter on hand for all of my vehicles. I don't put enough miles/hours on anything to warrant case lots (and of course, no 2 use the same filter). Wife often decides to trade vehicles with very little notice, I've gotten stuck with stuff enough times to learn my lesson there.

If your trading in vehicles I def wouldnt be stocking much. Everything I own I want to keep bad enough that its woolwaxed and would pay to put a engine or trans in it...I'm allergic to vehicle payments.

I'm lucky that my generator takes the same filter as my tractor. My car also take the same ad my SXS. I have a case for each.

I also stock at least 2 fuel filters for every diesel I own. Thought being if I ever gel up il change the filter and have one spare/another chance before I'm dead in the water.

There's PRICE and then there's AVAILABILITY.

I use the same oil across the board (except for my riding lawn mower, which only rarely sees an oil change).

I DID buy a fair amount a couple months back as the oil I get is often not available at WM: at one point I had thought they no longer were going to carry it. NOTE: I spec'd a near-direct replacement for the Rotella T6 CJ oil, an oil that I'd found to be the best for my use: nothing else out there; dragging my feet on ever going with the newer CK oils.

IF, however, you want to live life on the edge then hold off. IF you're risk adverse then just preempt the emotions (except the one that comes from paying the bill) and buy now.

Regarding filters, this one is where AVAILABILITY can be the larger concern. I always try to have filters to carry me over for a while: hydraulic filters in which I change every 400 hrs really only requires I have a set for the next change; oil filters like for my cars I tend to have enough for several changes; in general, I'm pretty good for at least a year or two.
