Morning coffee view !!!

Here is my morning coffee view off the deck of the old place . Yes ,those are Elk . I have counted as many as 100 Elk at one time .

It looks like one of the Elk is saying "Look at the dummy up there with the coffee and camera when there is all this good grass to eat down here. Humans are dumb". /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Elk are awesome animals. When Charlotte and I spent about 10 days in Estes Park, CO a couple of years ago we would go out every evening a watch the Elk. Beautiful sight.

Hi Gerard ,
Yes they will get very close . My wife's hobby is to see how close she can get and take there picture . I think she has gotten within 20 feet by using the trees as cover . I have driven by them in the truck and they were within 50 feet and never stopped eating grass . The mama's were here all summer with their calf's and it was very entertaining .
I practice "cow calling" to them sometimes in the evening . It can get real exciting when one of the bull's comes sneaking in to see who the new girl is !
We also have a pair of perfect 6x6 Whitetail bucks that like to hang out with this herd .They also have a pair of brothers that are perfect 5x5's . Here is a picture of one of their little brothers . He is a 4x4 . No kidding , the same doe is the mother of these three sets of twins .
They just melt away during hunting season and then show up again after season closes .

That's really neat. We get a lot of birds (all kinds and sizes) and some deer around our place but the dog always chases them away /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. I guess he's very territorial /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif. Gerard

I think I could supply you with a few Elk steaks . I only have about 300 pounds in the freezer. "Mama" will not let "anyone" hunt these( on our land) as they are more like cattle or big pets than wild animals.There would be no sport in it and I am a meat hunter ,not a horn or trophy hunter . Besides they calf in the front pastures and I would sure hate to mess that up .It is too much" fun" to watch our friends come visit and to watch their expression when they suddenly realize that the front pasture is full of Elk and Deer .
We are surrounded by 2 1/2 million acres to hunt and fish on ,so filling a tag on public land is not to hard .

Wow! Very nice ! I like your Bar B Que . Right now I am building a fireplace pit on the deck so we can use it more in the winter months . How long did it take to train those trees to that shape ?
