Looking at a Moritz dump trailer. Well built and solid. It has the torsional axle/suspension rather than the conventional axle/leaf spring system. Any experience /comments, good or bad, on the torsional system would be appreciated.

Thanks, Kevin

Had a Moritz but sold it a couple years back. No issues other that crappy paint. Made in Mansfield, Ohio.

Spring v/s torsion is like oil or transmission wars:laughing:

I have a small 8.5k gvw car hauler and a 22k gvw dump trailer with torsion. Night and day ride v/s springs. I have a 28' flatbed, 18k gvw on order with torsion. I will not buy, new, anymore spring axle trailers. Dexter has a 5 year warranty on spring axles and 10 years on torsion.

They all have crappy paint
Torsion axles have been gaining in popularity, never owned a torsion axle trailer. In the long term, I dont which is better.

I have a small Moritz dump trailer. It's a 6'2"x10' with a 12k rating. One of the reasons I bought it was because it had a better paint job in my opinion. I noticed some of the southern builders had thin or missing paint in hidden areas and on the undersides. This Moritz is covered completely and it is paint rather than powder coat (another bonus for easier touchups). I wasn't looking for auto quality paint, but full coverage. It has nice HD aluminum ramps that slide in under the bed too. I added a small onboard marine charger to the box with a through hull plug, and I plug it in every couple months, letting it charge for a couple days, to keep the battery happy. It does a very nice job of tailgating crushed stone on my drive. I've hauled stone, firewood, and landscape mulch. I've also strapped 20' and 24' sticks of steel to wood rails I added, when buying steel for projects. Overall I'm pleased with the trailer.
Torsion axles - no problems for me so far. I have to drive through a swale every time I drive from the barn to the drive, and it racks my truck or anything that passes through it. It's deep enough that it hangs one trailer wheel in the air slightly for a few feet as I drive through and turn when the trailer is empty. I've only had the trailer for a couple years so time will tell, but around here the Moritz are the sold as an upgrade over the others at dealers.

THANKS for the input. Much appreciated. As I get older I am sure I will appreciate the aluminum rams. I too am looking for a charger to mount in the box to keep the battery charged.

Thanks again all for your input.

I have tandem torsion axles on my travel trailer and love them. If they had been optional on my equipment trailer I would have gotten them.

I have run across this charger in my search. Looking for one that I can mount inside the box. Did not see the AC port...that would be an easy install. Do you think the 5 amp is sufficent?

Thanks for the input!

If I remember correctly, you want 4 amp or more for a deep cycle battery. This 5 amp with maintenance and recovery modes works well to get a deep charge, but I haven't fully drained my battery and had to bring it back. This charger is made for marine use where they drain batteries without having the luxury of topping it off occasionally like I get between loads with my truck.
