Looking seriously at replacing a Farmtrac 300DTC with hydrostat. Saw one at a dealer but thought these were no longer current. Any thoughts on price.
Also can't seem to find pto horsepower anywhere.

2740 = 23.8
3240 = 28.5
3040 = 26.8
3840 = 34.5
4540 = 39
4340 = 38
4940 = 44
5740 = 49.5

3440HST = 28.5
3940HST = 33

Hope that helps,
Ken

As far as price goes, that's up to you and your dealer. Are you going to trade your current tractor? If so, don't plan on getting the highest trade and the best cash price on what you are buying. The tractor business is not as high a profit as most think but you should spend some time checking a few dealers that you would be willing to drive to. I can tell you from my business that if a person takes the time to visit me and talk about their tractor needs, I'll give them a quote on a few models that I think would work and explain in detail the features of the models and that helps explain the different prices. I'll give them printed info and send them on their way with my phone number should they have any questions. I don't try to pressure anyone. I sell a high spec tractor and to an educated customer, that sells the tractor, not me. As far as phone and email quotes, email never gets a quote, I'll answer the email with my phone number. Phone quotes are OK if a guy is close enough to actually buy from me but if the call is half way across the country, he needs to work on that price with dealers close to him that he may actually buy from. I'm not being rude here and I have spent a lot of time helping out folks who have bought at other dealers with problems and filter numbers, etc, but every dealer has different overhead and every part of the country has a different cost of living so its just not fair that a customer may want the best price in the country from his local dealer when he lives in an area where McDonalds is paying $20 an hour.

There are some dealers that you just can't deal with at all no matter what you are buying but most dealers want to sell tractors and as long as they can make enough profit to stay in business, they will treat you OK.

Best of luck,
Ken

Thanks Ken.
It does help. Verifies what I had found on PTO horsepower.(farmtrac 390 hst)Dealer is the same one I bought the farmtrac from. I have it in for service right now and they are going to evaluate for trade. At the same time they eluded to what you say about selling outright and know it is up for sale if someone is interested. I've had the farmtrac for 2 and half years with 940 hours on it. I've been happy with tractor and dealer. A lot of what I do calls for constant forward and back and using my Kubota 2910 is too much easier than gear, just not heavy enough for a lot of jobs.
Thanks again
Doug

Sounds like the guy has treated you good in the past so you're doing business at the right place. If you can find a buyer for the current tractor, that will be the way to go at getting the best price on the new one. I often offer to let people leave their stuff here for me to help them sell and it really is a good deal for both of us. A lot of customers want something newer that they can save some money on but at the same time, it ties up the dealers money to take it on trade and they don't see any profit on the new sale till the trade is sold too.

In the car industry it seems that they just offer such low trades and make so much profit on used that they like trades way more than the tractor dealers do.

All of my trades are sold at just about what I gave for them on trade and most tractors I sell when taking a trade, are sold just a slight bit higher than the would have been sold without a trade.

Sounds like you and your dealer will work something out that you both are happy with!

Ken
