greetings! i recently purchased a 3840 tractor on e bay.i have no owners manual or info on tractor.would love a little info on this unit.need to change the oil but when i look under unit there are two small plugs in what i believe to be the oil pan and one large drain plug i believe to be the hydraulic oil.was planning on using 15w-40 oil.any info would be appreciated.anyone have a manual they could e mail to me thanks in advance for any help.this site seems to have a lot of knowledegable people that don't mind helping we the unknowing.

Well with a name like that...:D

Welcome to TBN!

I have a 3940, I think it is the same as yours. I don't have the owners manual in electronic copy but I do have the tractor service manual and I also have the engine service manual from Mitsubishi (I didn't need it, I just like to have the info available).

Depending on your location (temperature range) I think the recommended oil for your machine is 10W30. There are two drain plugs for the oil. The S2L4 engine holds 6 liters, I recommend getting a WIX oil filter from Napa - p/n 51365.

Since you are new to the machine I suggest you check the loader mounting bolts (the ones that attach to the tractor) as they seem to get loose.

Send me a PM if you want the manuals; they are large files (6M, 7M). I can scan the operators manual (or at least the important stuff). Most of the OM is pretty useless unless you have a sense of humour.

Cheers,
Mike

hi mike! thanks for the reply.funny you should mention the loader.i was missing 4 bolts on the mount of the loader.they actually took five hundred off the price when i bought it on e bay and picked it up at a place called mcgrew equipt in seven valleys penna.there was what i thought a broken bolt in the frame that i thought i was going to have to drill and tap but turns out not the case.the machine was really abused.can't imagine treating a machine the way they did.ive had it for two weeks and still waiting to dig a hole.there are actually 3 different bolt sizes in the mounting of the loader frame.don't know if its suppose to be that way or not but they were all loose when i picked it up.changed the oil and the air filter the radiator was completely pluged with dirt and leaves. i have several zerk fittings that won't take grease on the hoe bucket so that needs attention as well.i'm enjoying working on the unit because there is a 14 year old son involved.im not too savy on this computer but i can sit and hunt and peck at the keyboard to get my point across.is there a filter for the transmission that i have not found yet?i assume there is a glowplug on the unit because there is a symbol on the dash but it does not light up.any input you can pass my way would certainly be appreciated.thanks again a have a fine evening!! cy

on my 2840 you turn the key to the left and hold the glow plug light will come on hold for about 10 seconds. not sure where the hydro filter might be on you're look on the left side under the tractor, in front of the rear wheels.

I think all of your loader bolts should be the same size; maybe yours have been replaced by different style bolts (head type) but the thread should be the same.

My glow plugs always turn on in the 'on' position (run). The indicator lamp is very dim and hard to see in daylight.

Your hydraulic filter should be mounted under your left foot; its about 4.5" in diameter and maybe 8" long. I have attached a filter cross reference (that I found in these forums).

My rad has a removeable screen in front of it to collect debris, this makes cleaning very easy.

If you send me a PM with an email address I can send you the manuals. Best if you have high speed (not dialup);)

Hi sinner, I have a 4320, the dealer told me , when i change the engine oil to pull both oil pan plugs because the oil pan has baffle in it. That is so all the oil will drain.
