Anybody out there have a 2740 model Montana. Test drove one yesterday and kind of liked it. It was gear drive w/fel. Very simple to operate and nothing fancy. Any opinions?

Great small tractor. The only (minor) complaint I had with the 3 cyl I tested was that the ROPS didn't fold.

I did stick with a Montana purchase though :)

All I can say as a dealer is that the 2740 is that it is my Best seller for Montana, We started with montana in Late Nov 2003 and they all have proven to be very reliable as all Korean made tractors are. I always ask when customers when they return for filters ect, as far as I know my 2740 customers are happy with there purchase. Its alot of machine for the money

Yes, this is coming from another dealer but the 2740 is a heck of a machine. As said, when you compare the features it has to other tractors in that price range, it really is nice. When I say features, I'm not just talking about remotes, etc. Some of the features you need to look closely at like machine weight, type of brakes, axle size, etc. Some people don't look past the creature comforts when comparing but there is way more to it. There are a lot of tractors in the 27HP range that are just big riding mowers, where the 2740 is a small "real" tractor.

I've had a few customers skip over the 2740 and buy the 3040. If you aren't completely limited to the cost of the 2740, the 3040 is one you may want to take a close look at. If you think the 2740 will do everything you need now and in the future and don't want to spend any more on a tractor, then don't look at the 3040 but if you can see your needs changing to where you may need or want an extra set of remotes, could really use the extra weigh, etc, then check them both out!

Yes I sell them so I'm a little biased here but I also looked at many brands before picking Montana. I feel it was and is the best choice I could have made.

Thanks for your comments Shifty and Montanaman. I test drove the 2800 and 7800 Kubota, a Massey Furgeson (did not like) and the 2740. All these tractors are basically the same price so that's not much of an issue. Not being too very knowledgeble about tractors except for what I have been able to understand in the brochures I am really having a hard time making an educated decision. I think I want/need HST but I am not convinced. Will be using loader occasionally. I'm just sooooo confused

I looked at the Montana tractors at Ag Progress Days in State College and really liked what I saw. The problem for me was there were no dealers, as far as I know, in central Pa. I ended up with a Korean tractor but it is orange instead of green.

I have 16 hours on my 2740 and really enjoy it. Easy to operate, easy to service and very powerful for 27 HP. Other than washing and lubing the needed spots, all have have done is add fuel and put water and anti-freeze in the rear R-4 tires for weight and traction. That made a huge difference when moving rock and dirt.

Snyder Equipment in Watsontown would likely be the closest dealer to you. I have talked to these folks a few times and they are a third generation dealer. I actually looked at their inventory and spent half a day there before I chose the Montana brand. They couldn't have been nicer and more helpfull.

Keep in mind that there is a dealer locator on Montana's web site so if you are ever in question as to where a dealer is, check the site. If you don't see one near you, I would still just give a call to Montana. Many times, the web site updates fall behind.

I have the same tractor with blue paint. (FarmTrac 270 DTC) I have 250 hours and it has been a fine little tractor. I would do it all over again.

Great little tractor. I use the fire out of mine.
I just finished digging a footer trench with the 3PT hitch Montana backhoe.

What a perfect setup for me.
