Built wood shed 3 years ago. Treated lumber. Finally got around to painting it. And noticed black mold.

Shed style roof, metal. Back side old metal roofing, one side screwed pallets, west side. South side open to sun.

Son me mild on inside bottom, but some on outside rafters too.

First shed I built. 10 foot roof and 10 foot metal, no over hang on top or bottom only sides. Will extend and flashing. But not all mold was at top and bottom.

Wondering do I need to open more for wind or close it more.

Curios on opinion for venting wood sheds.

8 wide, 6 deep, 9 feet in the front 5 in back, roughly.

Where is it at? In the shade or where it doesn't get much breeze?

Shady areas. One area on outside, but in shade from nearby trees.

Middle of roof, mostly ok.

You're on the UP where the snow gets as high as an elephants eye??? IMHO you need more air flow. You are putting green wood in the shed and moisture is getting trapped in there. Open it up more and don't stack the wood so tight. When I used wood, my shed was 10x16 and open on all four sides. Basically it was just a roof over the stacked wood. Even at that I had mold problems. I cut a path thru the brush - going upwind - so more air flow thru the shed and left open spaces between each row of stacked wood. This solved my mold problem.

The mild is above the fire wood. I might take the metal off the back wall, and take the pallets off the sides. Problem is it will get snowed on. My goal is to have enough sheds to have 2 years of wood. Snow Covered is ok for next year's wood, but an issue for what I am using

It could get stored for years. Would it rot?

Some of the spots I thought got wind.

Snow will get 4 feet deep, but not up to the rafters.

What about alternating boards from I inside and outdide. I have seen farmers barns like this. I assumed for air flow, but no rain. H ard to protect framing though.

Really need a picture to give useful advice.

A properly designed roof includes venting that carries air from the low part of the roof, to the high part. The heat of the roof makes air rise, which dries out the rafters. Air flow is the secret to a dry, mold free roof.

To deal with the mold, pour laundry bleach in a squirt bottle and soak the affected areas. Bleach kills everything!!!

Just a shed roof, one angle.
