Will a 4530 4WD pull a mounted 3/16 plow in heavy soil?

What are the specs for your Mahindra 4530? HP? Weight? 2-WD/4-WD? Tires? Cat 1 or Cat2 hitch?

How is it set up? FEL? Tires loaded? Other?

Plow? Impecable moldboards? Condition of wear parts? Cat 1 or Cat 2?

I'd venture to say yes. My 40 setup to weigh about the same as that pulls a double 16 fast with power to spare. I have good heavy soil. All composted horse stuff that stays wet.

A 3/16 will be moving dirt 3 X 16" X 8" depth = 384 square inches = 2.66 square feet.

As you plow deeper you increase the probability of hitting hard soil.

If you are breaking sod, draft force will be greater than if you are plowing annually.

You need to pull plow 4-5 mph in order to flip soil properly.

I think you will be OK with 3/16" plow if it is in excellent condition.

If your tractor has R4/industrial tires or plow has dull wear parts or a rough moldboard you will be marginal or fail.

JD plows were made by various manufactures for JD. They have a slight reputation for being harder to pull than other brands.

One can plow 7-9" deep with a 16" plow and still flip soil properly. Moldboard plow are not very flexible. You do not want to surface poor quality subsoil.

You will be glad you have 4-WD. You will need plenty of throttle. I hope you have ag tires, not industrial tires.

If you do not have prior plowing experience I would not begin plowing experience with an old 3/16" behind a Mahindra 4530 in heavy soil.

OTHER EXAMPLES​

A 3/12 will move dirt 3 X 12" X 6" depth = 216 square inches.

A 3/14 will move dirt 3 X 14" X 7" depth = 294 square inches

To me, either of these alternatives would be preferable to 3/16" for Mahindra 4530.

Used to be a good rule of thumb was 1 HP per inch of plow...3x16 would therefore be approx 48hp. You said you don't have loaded rears...this may also give you a problem; ie..more weight equals more traction. BobG in VA

I have not bought the tractor yet. I have been using a JD620 and Farmall H (with 2/14 Plow). I'm getting tired of non stop tractor break downs and the only tractor mechanic can take 6 months to two years to repair stuff I can't do. So I need to figure out what Mahindra I would need that will still go through my 8' shed door.

That 3-16 plow is about the limit for your tractor. Load the tires front and rear and you'll be OK. In MN you'll need an anti-freeze mixture or Rimguard (beet juice).

I had to have ROPS on my L3560 sectioned 4" before tractor would pass beneath 82" garage door with ROPS folded.

A good welding shop can cut/weld so it is unobtrusive. Charged me $200; I was expecting $400.

It is hard to find accurate heights for folded ROPS; especially with redesigns that have occurred with imposition of Tier IV requirements. (Kubota L3560 spec was inaccurate.)
I would take a tape to Mahindra dealer and measure.

You never said, does the Mahindra have a FEL? If so you probably don't need to load the fronts....as the FEL will add about 1000 or 1200 lbs to the front half...BobG in VA....PS: you'd be crazy not to have the FEL...just my 2 cents. ..

Condition of the plow is good my hunting farm is 270 miles away and I don't have any pictures. I have good heavy black dirt with very few rocks and there is mostly clay about 1' down

I would not plow 8"- 9" deep with clay subsoil 'about' 1' down.

You do not want to surface clay.

Those conditions are likely to create PLOW PAN after 5-8 passes with a 3/16" plow and a 7,500 pound tractor-loader combination passing over clay.

I would find a 3/12" moldboard plow for those conditions.


I prepare food plots with a Monroe Tufline 18/20" / 915 pound mounted Tandem Disc Harrow, hand sow, then roll in seed with an Cultipacker.

Well the dealer I'm working with has a 2013 6530 with front end loader that he is really dealing on. I will be looking at it on Sunday and this should handle my 3/16 plow with no problem.

Are you gonna be trailering this tractor back and forth (ie. 270 miles)? The 6530 will be a load to haul unless you have a semi with a lowboy trailer somewhere (halfway joking about the semi, but the 6530 weighs a 'bunch' more than the other one)...BobG in Va
