Hi,
I'm doing my first 50 hour service on my BX and instead of using UDT I'm going to use Mobilfluid 426 (http://xom.ee/files/270_glxxencvlmomobilfluid_426.pdf) from Mobil.
On reading the specs for this oil I can see not only will it replace the hydraulic fluid, but it will also replace the 10W-30 in the engine and the gear oil (SAE 80W).
Has anyone else tried out this oil?
Has anyone else used one oil for all three applications?
If so what was the outcome?

Thanks,
Robert.

I think you better recheck your uses for this oil. It is a Universal Tractor Fluid, NOT a motor oil. As long as it meets or exceeds your spec for your machine it should be fine for use as a UTF and the front axle. It is however most decidedly NOT a motor oil. What they are referring to when they mention 10w30 motor oil is that some hydraulic systems use that, and in that application this product can be used. DO NOT USE IT IN YOUR ENGINE!

I use Mobilfluid 426 in other tractors. As I recall, it DOES NOT say you can use it in an engine. What it says is, if your transmission/hydraulic/axle fluid specification calls for 10w-30 engine oil, you can use Mobilfluid 426 in your transmission/hydraulic/axle system. This also means if your tranmission/hydraulic/axle fluid specification calls for 80W gear oil, you can use Mobilfluid 426 in your tranmission/hydraulic/axle system. DO NOT put Mobilfluid 426 in any internal combustion engine or in the rear axle of your pick up truck. Philip.

I'll never understand why people feel the need to be experimental with their fluids in machines that cost thousands of dollars. Personally, I want to put in the fluids and not think about them at all, and to achieve this, I go by what the manufacturer recommends. They know better than I or anyone else posting here.

I agree, and the original poster stated he is doing a 50 hour service, so it is probably a new BX, and probably calls for SUDT instead of UDT. At my 50 hour service I dumped ALL fluids, replaced ALL filters, and filled with new SUDT, except for the enigne of course. Philip.

Hi Ray,

I will try to help you understand, from my point of view, why I sometimes use fluids that are not specifically recommended by the manufacturer.

- Sometimes the other fluids are superior in some way.

- Some manufacturer-recommended fluids have objectionable qualities, not shared by other brands.

- Sometimes the other fluids cost less.

- The manufacturer always has a conflict-of-interest in recommending a fluid marketed by the manufacturer.

- The operating conditions may differ from those foreseen by the manufacturer.

- Most manufacturers do not refine the fluid, but have it made for them by refineries with additives that make it appear unique (color, smell, packaging, . . .)

- Standards, and the federal requirement that manufacturers specify and allow those standards or provide free fluids if they require their own product, exist for a purpose.

When the OP asked this question, it was apparently not obvious to him that the fluid in question was inappropriate to replace engine oil. From the response of others, it seems that use of this non-manufacturer fluid is appropriate for the recommended non-engine use.

John, the person or persons from TBN do not know what they are talking about.:laughing::laughing:
There has not been a Service Bulletin or even a notice sent to the
dealers that this is a mistake in the Operators manual. Kubota Tractor
recommends for you to follow your Operators manuals for servicing of each
unit you have. The BX2660 and the BX25 do not have to have the transmission
fluid change until it reaches the 400 hour mark. For the F2680, it is the
200 hour mark. The transmission oil filters need to be replaced and the
suction strainers cleaned at or before the 50 hour mark for all three
units. Your selling dealer can also assist you if you have any questions in
regard to servicing your tractors. Thank you for purchasing and contacting
Kubota Tractor Corp..

I agree - I have heard people tell me 10W-30 is better to put in when the manufaacturer recommends 5w-20. I say Look I don't know too much about oil but I'll bet the Honda engineers know more than either of us so I
m putting in what they recommend. In the end just do what the manufacturers recommend - They aren't trying to fool you and they are well aware of the name brand oils that are available. If it was better they would recommend it.

Storm56, Philip8N, Guys,

I hear you loud and clear. Keep the Mobil426 out of the engine. You are right it is a BX and indeed I did mis-understand what it meant in the oil specs. I guess that is why I thought it better to ask more experienced and wiser heads before doing anything. I'll get 10w-30 for the engine and use the 426 in the Hydraulics and gears.

Many thanks for the good steer.

Robert.

It would be nice if you wuld let us know with your change of the fluids as to the reaction of the transmission to the oil.

Noise levels as well as the systems efficiency as well.
