I've seen some trailers come up for sale here that have mobile home axles. Not being a fan of these, someone told me there are hub/bearing kits for them so one can use normal wheels and tires on them. Some kit's even have brakes. Anyone here ever see or use these on trailer home axles?

Check Eastern Marine: Trailer Parts Superstore - Official Site I got new Dexter from backing plates out including hubs for my old Eager Beaver Tri-Axle 15 or so years ago with the open center mobile home style wheels, they may have conversion kits didn't take the time to look. I bought and were shipped for less than I could buy local.

I did have a problem with them because of the Chinese bearings. Less than 500 miles and a bearing cage disintegrated on the left front, and hub and tire came off on a curve. Went back and retrieved.

I immediately went home and found NOS Timken bearings on ebay for cheap. Ran it another 10 years or so hauling tractors hay etc. with no issues until I sold it after getting a new trailer.

Without knowing the axle capacity you need, you might consider complete axles, for not much more in cost.

Seems that shipping would be at least 100 per axle, so the two might run $900+-. I seen a brake conversation kit on amazon for $200 per axle. I'd only need one set of brakes so the hub kit for the hub only axle would be less.

Your getting a hub with drum along with brakes for $100 per wheel? That's dirt cheap.

What's the problem with the open center axles?
