I am looking to standardize my oil inventory. I presently use Rotella 5w40 in my 50hp tier 3 diesel engine. I contacted Mobil One and asked the question but his answer was yes but not a clear yes. Does this oil meet the spec that I need? I change the oil at 100hr intervals. I would probably benefit from the 0w when it is minus 10f outside. Has anyone used this oil?

Please do not respond on what you use. I am looking for use on 0w40 for reasons in the post. Lets keep this on track.

I don't use 0W-XX oil since I don't need it for super severe cold weather however just remember that the 0W is just the winter pour weight characteristics. It is still 40weight oil. If you need 0W-xx for winter then go for it. Personally, I see nothing wrong with what you are using now. I used 5W-40 oil when I was living in Alberta Canada where -40F was common winter temps and never had a winter starting issue with it. 5W-40 works for year round service in almost all situations and I am sure that Shell Rotella T6 is much cheaper than Mobil 1 0W-40.

However if you wish to standardize to one oil and for some reason you want to change to Mobil 1, then there is no reason not to go with it. Everyone has a "this is what I use" for one reason or another and most have not real reason for using one brand of oil over another. Some folks like blonds, other like brunettes or redheads, it is just a personal preference. In oils just stick with a major brand of oil and if it meets the API certifications needed for your vehicle, you will be good to go.

I'll just throw this tidbit in: Exceeding the specs needed rarely gains you any advantage and in the case of gasoline, may even harm your engine. I don't think this would be the case with oil and your engine, but it could harm your wallet a bit.

I use Shell Rotella 5W-40 in all my diesel engines.

The 0w-40 is the spec weight and exact oil called for in the wife's Mercedes. The oil is more or less made for German cars, as it's referred to the European blend. That oil goes for 12,000 miles before it needs changed. The oil filter is massive though, probably why the long interval.

The oil is pretty shear stable and why it's used in cars with overhead cams with twin independent variable valve timing. Those cam phasers really shear the oil and destroy cheaper grades.

I wouldn't use it in as a diesel oil because a diesel needs to have an oil with soot control to negate the acids diesel combustion makes. Rotella T-6 and Mobil 1 5w-40 are about the best.

Without knowing the exact engine, I would venture to say likely yes. If I remember correctly, Mobil spec shows this oil as OK for Diesel engine s pre tier 4. The simplest way to check would be to look in your owners manual for the proper API oil designation, and then confirm that the Mobil 1 meets the same spec.

I use Mobil 1 5W-40 in all my diesels engines
Me too. I use 0W-40 in my 2016 Ram truck with the 6.4 hemi engine because thats what it calls for.Pennzoil, redline, castrol and Mobil all make 0W-40

The Mobil 1 0W40 meets the VW 505 spec for German gas engines and German diesels without DPF's.
The HTHS(hi temp hi shear) number is in the 7-9 range.
Domestic diesels and Asian diesels usually ask for a hths of 3.5 or so.
So,technically, this would not be the correct oil for your engine.
Could it be better in our tractors?
A question I've thought about!
Good Luck!

Check the starburst for C (compression ratings). If it's for diesels, you will have C and S (spark) ratings in the burst on in the specs on the rear. I use Shell Rotella T 5w-40 full syn in my Branson diesels and like it. I never add oil between changes. Wallyworld has it at a good price.

What diesel oil spec does your Kioti call for ?

Mobil makes decent 0W oils, but IMO, not really needed where you are. The CJ version of T6 has a -42C Pour Point, so should be fine for NH.
