If its like my tractor, you should be able to just grab the end of the ujoint that is attached to the pto shaft and slide the whole outer sleeve back and once that's back, the whole ujoint should slide right off the shaft. If the sleeve is stuck, may need to give it a few light taps with a small hammer to loosen it up a bit. May need to grease it or spray it with a lubricant as well so it doesn't keep sticking. Good luck.

A picture would help us all determine the proper course of action as well.

when you say grab the end of the ujoint that is attached to the pto shaft you are talking closer to the tractor side not the deck side??? Sorry if I sound stupid. Just want to confirm! Thanks for the help!!!

Yes, on the tractor side where the mower shaft goes on to the PTO shaft of the tractor. There is a outer "ring" at the end of the mower shaft that will pull back a bit, then you can slide the mower shaft off the PTO.

I usually slid the pto collar back and slide a c wrench handle between the pto shaft and tractor body and pry it off. It has always been stubborn to remove and pit on. Just make sure you have the release collar moved back. To reattach I usually attach one pin on the side and leave the other two loose, slide the collar back and slide pto shaft on. I make sure the collar is still in the open positions and pull the mower towards the back. It pivots on the one connection, and the pto shaft snaps into place. Hook up the other side pin and front pin and I am good to go.

Slide the collar back on the tractor end and it should pull off.

If its been on there a long time, the balls that lock the shaft on might be siezed or the splines rusted.

You may have to get in there with some penetrant and pry the splined section off.

If the loader is on the tractor (or a jack) you can lift the front of the tractor up and pull the deck out under the front wheels. Then you can go back and try and remove the stuck section because you now have some room to work. When I remove the mower on my BX I usually jack the front with the loader after all the pins are pulled, just to have more clearance. It makes a big difference.

I have a BX 24 and the operators manual covers just about everything EXCEPT the removal of the MMM. The areas being covered and discussed are not very user friendly either. I think they 'assume' that everybody already knows all this stuff. Why is that? Very frustrating.

The tractor operator's manual only covers the stuff that comes with the tractor. If you check your MMM operator's manual it is covered, with pretty good pictures and stuff.

GolfAddict nailed it. Might I add that the "ring" he spoke of is spring loaded. Also, after fighting the same experience you are dealing with, I found that a reasonable cleaning-fresh greasing of the PTO shaft and fittings while it's off sure makes things easier the next time. PTO shafts and fittings get pretty grungy and the grease gets hard.

Be careful putting all of that PTO stuff back on. Double check everything.
