I am not good at reading directions and/or following directions. I can usually study something for a bit and figure it out, after I mess it up real bad, /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif. However, the caster settings in the manual seem to contradict themselves. The manual shows to have the caster 1/4'' to 1/2'' off the ground at lowered position. The manual also shows a table for rolling terrain which indicates if you are mowing at 3 inches then to have the peg in the 3rd position down. and if you mow at 2.5 inches then 2nd position down. IMO this tabe is backwards. Any one elses opinions on this would help. I live in TN, and alothiogh my land is flat, I have no flat spots to check my blade and caster levels.

The table in my manual doesn't read like that. It shows 2.5" as the forth hole down. I think you need to experiment a bit with it to see what works best in your conditions.

I just got a BX2200,

My understanding is that the casters are there to lift the deck if it should hit the ground for some reason, like a bump in the grass...

You pick the height you want to mow at, and set the mower for that height. Then you adjust the casters so they are about 1/2 inch [whatever the manual says} above the ground. This is when the mower is lowered to the desired cutting height.

For example, say you wanted to cut at 3". When the mower was lowered to the 3" cutting position you should have the casters set so they are slightly above the ground and not touching.

If you do this on concrete, the casters should spin freely when the deck is in the cutting position. They will be that small distance above the concrete surface.

Hope this makes sense...The casters do not carry the deck on a bx...it is floating, suspended from the tractor. They just help to prevent scalping...

I agree, the deck is floating and the casters do not carry the weight. However, if I set the casters as the manual shows in the table for 3" then the casters are carrying the weight. I was mowing just fine until one day I decided to read the instructions. After that my field looked like a bad haircut. I went back to what worked and it looks fine now. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this trouble with the table in the manual or am I interpreting the table wrong. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

My manual shows the same as yours for the 3" cutting height. But for the 2.5" it is not as you say. 2.5" setting is the 4th position down.

The second position down is for 3.5" cutting height...

The higher you cut, the lower you drop the anti-scalp roller...

The lower you cut, the more you move the roller upwards.

Hope this helps...
