'67-ish Ford 3000 Diesel
Have the little above named tractor as my Ford 3000 diesel is going on year four of not running....
Was mowing my small pasture this afternoon and the steering suddenly got a notchy feeling. Well I go to turn at the end of the row and the steering wheel turned but the wheels did not!!
Used the brakes to steer it back to the house.
Problem is in the gearbox. I turn the steering wheel to the right and the gearing meshed I assume and the wheels turned to the right.
I turn the steering wheel to the left and wheels don't turn and the whole steering shaft starts to rise as I'm turning. Back to the right and the shaft drops down.
Is there a clip or some kind of keeper in the steering box abyss??
Anybody happen to have an image or link to an exploded parts diagram or some-such?
Better yet, any first hand experience?
I am truly a tractor killer.... ☠

See my reply on TractorForum site. I can upload the manuals there, there is too small of a file limit to add here.

We rebuild steering boxes. You probably had a lower bearing go out to start with. What is wrong now is that the ball/nut assembly on the steering shaft has come apart. Depending on the condition of the shaft you may need the whole steering shaft assembly.
