Hi,
I am working on a Mitsubishi 180HM diesel tractor. The ignition quit completely. There was no response from the gauges, or the glow plug heater indicator, or the starter. I tested the battery and it was found to be dead. I put a new direct replacement battery in it. There was a single response from the ignition switch, for heat and it then started and then nothing after it was shut down and retried. Last week I bought an ignition switch. It turned out not to be the switch. The symptoms are basically the same, when the key was turned the 1st time to heat, the coil did indeed heat. When it was turned to start it clicked the fuel solenoid, and the lights came on and I was able to start the tractor for a while and then it turned off. After the initial life there has been no response from the key. It is as if a main bus relay is not being activated. On the electrical block diagram there is a unit called the "control time unit". Is this some sort of relay? Am I cooking ignition switches with another problem? I am working on my Church's lawn tractor and have hit a wall. The grass is getting tall. Please help!!
Thanks,
Lou

get a battery charger and charge the battery for a few hours then try to start it.before hooking up the charger disconnect the neg battery wire.hook up the wire when u are ready to start the tractor.chances are that one of the switches on the tractor is in the on position causing the battery to drain.or the alternator could be defective.

Thanks for the reply. I have checked the battery with a meter and used an auxiliary battery just to be sure, and there is plenty of "juice". It just seems that there is something keeping it from getting from the switch to the bus. I have a weak third party shop manual for the tractor and it really only provides a silly block diagram instead of a true schematic. I cannot tell how the "Control Time unit" is used. It is my guess that it has the bus relay. The ignition switch was fairly expensive. I am thinking the control unit will be VERY expensive. I hate to employ "swap-tronics" with the churchエs money. However, at this point, it would still be much cheaper that putting in a service call on the tractor. I am going to pull the dash apart again and this time look deeper into the wiring and see if I can find the control unit and try to trouble shoot further.

you should not have to work so hard.please go to this site Valley Power. there are wiring diagrams available there.if you do not find yours call the number and you will be given assistance.on diesels the wiring is quite simple.the switch you installed could be connected wrong.get a meter or a test light.and test the connections.the power from the battery goes to the starter from there it goes to the switch .at the switch when you go to the heat position you have to get power on that terminal.when you turn to start power has to go to the start terminal.when you release from startyou have to get power to the acc. terminal.Satoh Parts
