Mitsubishi D1650FD
Backed my Mitsubishi D1650FD into the shop after using.

Went to pull it out today and the transmission is locked in reverse.

Shift lever almost seems as if it is in neutral.

It had been tempermental on shifting into 2nd or 3rd at a dead stop, easy while on the move, don't know if that info is of any help.

Can someone give me an idea of what I need to do or look for?

This happened to me when the tranny /hydraulic fluid was overfilled...before I learned about the full fill screw on the side tansmission case.

I don't know this tractor specifically but the inner end of the shift lever has almost certainly popped out of engagement with its slot in the reverse gear selector fork, andis now in the 'neutral' portion of the gate leaving the reverse selector fork and gear stranded in reverse. You will need to find a way to lift the end of the shift lever enough to allow it to be re-engaged in its slot in the reverse selector, or you may need to lift the top cover with the shift lever and manually shift the reverse selector back out of engagement, before re-engaging the shift lever in the neutral portion of the shift gate. If you do lift the cover make sure that you dont allow any of the gear shift detent springs or balls drop into the casing. There may be some screws on the top cover that can be removed to allow these to be withdrawn first, and replaced afterwards once the cover is back in place.

Thanks for the information. havesome questions about both replies.

cazadorloco, Did lowering the oil level correct the problem> When I checked oil level, it is about an inch higher than the overfill screw.

Cpro, I do not see any screws on top of shifter cover other than the six on outer edge that hold down the cover. If I loosen the cover hold down screws just a little will, that allow me to get shifter lever back in place without detent springs or balls falling into the gear case?
There's a hose that loops over top of the shifter cover, that unless I disconnect it, will prevent me from lifting the shifter lever cover straight up. I'm concerned that it is a hydraulic hose and that I will get air in the line by removing the hose.
Any recommendations on how to proceed?

Yes it did fix it but mine was filled nearly to the top of the case. Worth a try before pulling the top cover. Cpro is spot on about the springs/balls warning.
