i have replace the glow plugs and ignition switch, bled the lines, checked to see if diesel getting intocoils and it still wont start. it blows white smoke most of the time, once in a great while it will give off black smoke and chug like it wants to start but it wont. any suggestions?????

Give us a little more background. Was it running recently? Any repairs? What happened right before it wouldn't start?

yes it ran good, the only repair made was to the alternator but it started after that. no other repairs, it just didn't start one day. I got it to start once like 3 months ago and let it run for a good while but when my husband tried the next day it wouldn't start and it hasnt ever since. we are regular gas engine people so this diesel has us buffaloed

First of all, you need to look at the fuel bowl on the bottom of the filter and make sure that it is full of diesel instead of water. If there is is a question, remove it and let some diesel drain from the tank until it contains no water. Loosen the plug on the side of the injection pump and crank it until there is no air escaping, and tighten it back up. Loosen several of the fittings at the injectors, and crank it until you see fuel pulsing out of those fittings. Then tighten the fittings, turn the key to the left for 20 seconds and heat the glow plugs, and it should start.

Make sure you don't crank it more than 20 seconds and let it cool for 30 seconds before doing more. You don't want to burn out your starter. Also, you might need to keep a battery charger on the battery while you are doing this unless you have a really good battery.

if i have the glow plug indicator disconnected because it was rusted and wires had to be cut off will that make a differance??

Usually there is a timer to control the glow plugs however I have gone the direct route with a heavy duty switch at times.
If you do that YOU become the timer and don't stay on long otherwise you will fry them.
About 15 seconds should be max, and you will need a heavy duty switch as the plugs draw LOTS of amps.
Actually you would want to use a relay rather than a switch.

Don't wire directly to the switch as due to high amperage you will melt the switch.

Cutting the indicator wires contributed to your problem as the indicator is part of the plug circuitry.

For a temporary solution using heavy wire like 10 gauge, jump directly from battery positive to any of the plugs as they are wired in parallel but only make that contact for no more than 15 seconds and immediately try starting. Should fire up providing the fuel requirements are in order.

In fact, to be safe heat for no more than 10 seconds.
