Missing antenna on 2005 JD 6420 cab??

Hi, I just bought a 2005 JD 6420 and it does not have a radio. I opened the space for the radio and all the wires are there in a harness adaptor. There is a seperate cable marked antenna but there is not a visible external antenna on the top or side of the cab. I can purchase a radio from JD for $160 but do I also need to purchase an external antenna or is it built into the cab like some cars today?? If so do I need to take the roof off to mount the antenna, sure hope not?!? I think it has speakers and what JD calls radio acessary package but no radio!! Thanks for your help!! DEAN

I'm fairly confident you'll need to raise cab roof & install an antenna but one will need to inspect your tractor for presence/absence of an antenna. Raising the roof isn't very difficult although from viewing parts catalog it appears there's about 20 bolts one has to remove that holds roof on. Although on further investigation of 6420 parts catalog it does list an antenna that's just a wire under the cab roof. In fact there are numerous antenna's with different part numbers.

Thanks Jim, I'm hoping I have one of the under roof models!! I've looked at many pics of 6420's and only found one with an external antenna. Anyone have experience with stock JD radios or would I be better off with a after market brand??

I do not care for the radio in my 5525. Not sure the brand but it is factory install. It is the most confusing radio to operate I have used in years. ONLY Tractor radio I have ever touched. The controls just don't flow as most radios do. The tractor also drowns out the radio are you are running over about 1500 rpms.
