An old timer that ran a chainsaw shop showed me many tricks about chainsaws. The sprocket in the tip of the bar (some have it and some don't) will add 10% more power to smaller saws. There is a small hole to pump grease into, give it a couple of squirts when you fill with gas. The narrowest portion of gap on the bar always goes down, raise up on the bar and chain when tightening the bar nut, check the edge of the bar for a ridge and keep it filed smooth, remove the spark arrester from the muffler to keep it from clogging, and clean the air filter frequently. Keeping the rakers filed makes a huge difference in the cutting performance. These tips have helped me a great deal in the 27 years I've been heating with wood. My saws are very old, and I keep them in the hard cases when I'm not cutting, they still look like new, also after 27 years of hard use. Never loan your chainsaw to anyone, they won't take care of it the way you would.
