Mig opinions

I'm thinking about buying a new 110v mig. The one I have is a budget version that I bought 15 years ago. It has served me well, but it takes some work to put down a nice bead with it.

I've used Millers...They seem to do a nice job. Also looking at Lincoln.

Any opinions on the 2 brands. Will be using gas with either.

The one upside to Lincoln is that the parts seem to be more available. Millers are sold at specialty shops around here.

I don't have the models handy. Just looking for a multi-purpose machine that will be used mostly for auto body work..18 ga and less most of the time. Otherwise general welding south of 1/4 inch. Have a stick welder to deal with the heavy stuff.

Suggestions are welcome.

Both are top of the line brands,as far as that goes,,,but who knows when buying a 110 volt.

Both machines would be great. If you want to save a few dollars go with a Hobart Handler 140. Its a Millermatic 140 minus the purge option. Ive seen the kits around here for about 600 Canadian. I have Millermatic 140 and I love it. I also Have a Lincoln Precision tig 225, a powermig 215, and Ranger 305 g. Im not brand loyal but for 110 machines I prefer what Miller/Hobart has. And if you aren't aware Hobart and Miller are like GMC and Chevrolet.

I have a Lincoln 135 that I found on CL, only slightly used for about 1/2 new price w/o tank). I've been very happy with it for light work! Like you, I have an old stick that I'm very familiar with for any thing over 3/16" or so. ~~ grnspot110

I got a miller 135xp. Been a great machine...BUT l should have bought bigger.

Id save up and get either a MM 180 or 212. My dream machine would be a 252

Didn't think of Hobart...Thanks. I kinda knew they were pretty much Millers. Thanks for the reminder.

You don't say what your buget is, if your spending limit allow's look at some of the smaller 220 machine's.Found a lincoln sp180 at local TSC a while back on sale,it does great work for the money, not a lot more than some of 110 machine's.If you get up to 1/4" and 3/16" steel the 220 is great.
