Anyone else have this problem. I've read some about this is the archives, though it more or less related to the quick-disconnect on the U joint.

My problem is when I disconnect the MMM from by B7610, then want to reconnect it some time later, the PTO spline does not line up. It's keyed, like the drive shaft I guess. Thing is, it takes a while playing around with it (rotating the PTO shaft slowly) to get it the correctly lined up to the quick connect of the MMM shaft U-Joint. Thought someone might have found and east way to align the two.

I have the same problem with my snowblower, mmm, and chipper. Seems as if the splines are never in the right spot. I have been tempted to put a paint stripe or gauge mark on the shafts once they are mated that way the next time I should be able to line up the marks......think I'll try that tommorrow....

I don't know your tractor, but on mine if I put the PTO select lever in Rear Only mode, the mid PTO shaft spins freely. If I put it in Mid Only mode, the rear PTO spins freely. This helps a lot!

Waynew -

I don't know if this helps - but once I get the MMM back under my B7610 - the FIRST thing I connect is the mid-PTO shaft - this before I've connected any of the MMM-lifting brackets / what have you.

I simply turn the MMM drive-shaft gently to get the coupling "started" on the mid-PTO spline - once it slides on the first inch or so - then I slide back the coupling-ring and push it onto the PTO spline until it locks. I'm pretty sure the coupling at the mid-PTO is the same all the way around - so no problems here.

The only "spline alignment" that I've come across: the MMM spline has a single, wider spline - I think this lines up with the grease fitting of the rotating shaft.

A few times - while transporting the MMM by a strap ( Picture ) - the *outer* MMM shaft has slipped off the spline from the MMM gearbox. I found that this only goes back on ONE way. Now I use a rubber / bungee cord to keep if from slipping off.

I hope this helps,

Dan

Thanks for that tip Dan, I'll be sure to try that arrangement next time I attempt to re-install the MMM. Sounds like a better system then what I've been doing. (don't ask)

-thanks again. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Chucko-

Another point - I actuall carry the MMM so you can see the blades - makes a quick sharpening with a grinder or blade rotation quick & easy!

And no - it doesn't matter if the name on the strap is upside down or not! (had to re-read your post several times - "mane" = name had me confused!) /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
