I have a front mount snow blower on my B7800 and the mid point PTO disengages during use. Any idea why this happens? If I hold the lever it stays engaged. I don't see any adjustment in the linkage. Thanks!
I own a BX so don't have any experience with the "B" series. You may want to expand on what is happening. When did it start? Any unusual sounds? When did you last use the mid PTO? Maybe that will generate a few more responses.
Thank you Rfisher for your reply. It happened after the chute got plugged with snow (1st time in 7 years of ownership). No unusual sounds. I'm hoping it's not a major problem.
usually the shifting rod has a detent on the shifting shaft (inside the gear unit).
it is basically a slot that a spring loaded ball sits in to hold the shaft from moving on it's own.
it is possible for the ball to break up or spring fail to provide tension. I would need to see a schematic or parts breakdown to be sure.
another possibility is the shifting shaft is bent or not traveling properly to engage the detent. you could check this by removing the shifting shaft near the mid pto and seeing if it allows adequate travel or if you feel a detent. again that would require that that is how the pto is held in position. (don't try this while it is running) .
my 3710 does the same thing every once in a while when I am using my MMM. It does not do it when running the chipper, however. I just bungee the lever in place and don't worry about it.

that method may or may not cause other problems. The bungee means there is a constant pressure of the fork against the gear face which may cause abnormal wear.
