While dealing with my ignition switch problem, I was looking under the hood at the firewall, there is an opening about in the middle, you can see into the back side of the dash. I saw a bunch of straw, twigs and all sorts of bedding. I removed the lower panel of the dash to reveal a totally filled area with mouse bedding, pee and poop. What a mess. Used a vacuum cleaner and compressed air to clean it out. Lots of wires in there, I was lucky, no damage. While I was doing this work, I looked at the lower front edge of the seat and saw the tell tale black ooze of mouse pee coming from under the seat. Moved the seat as far forward as it would go and looked in. All I saw was bedding and more bedding. The only way to get at it was to remove the seat at it's 4 mounting bolts. I used needle nose pliers, compressed air and a vacuum cleaner to get all that crap out. Because of the pee, a lot of stuff was stuck to the springs and other parts. Last step was to flush the area with a garden hose. I stuffed the under seat area and the under dash area with fabric softener sheets. The tractor is kept in a portable garage so I'm sure it's a great place for mice to live through the winter. Glad I found this now instead of the middle of winter, ready to plow and no start because of chewed wires. Hope this helps somebody!

Mice do not like moths balls! I put a couple of tupperware containers of them in my boat before it gets stored for the winter. Should work the same in your tractor. IF you can stand the smell of them.

+1

In my CT445 a pack rat completely filled the under hood area from the firewall forward with weeds, I mean it was literally packed. Lucky it was food storage for him and not his main nest. Cleaned it out and placed a cotton athletic sock filled with 1lb of moth balls under the hood and and another in the cabin. I do the same for my International DT4700, a sock on top of the block, another in the cab.

I put dryer sheets in my tractor tool compartment and the mice made a nest out of them. I put mothballs in my travel trailer and when I cleaned out the mouse nests, there were moth balls in the in the fluffy nests. They do not like snap type mouse traps, however.

I use this wherever I have mouse issues. It's the only thing I found that works in my motorhome. It smells great but sure keeps the critters away. I've tried moth balls, dry sheets, traps and various poisons. By the time they get into a trap, they've already made a mess. This stuff really works.

I had problems with mice insetting into the heater in one car, so I pulled it apart, cleaned it and place one of these on the cabin filter. Instant air freshener and no mice.

It works VERY well, but is not cheap and needs replenishing a couple times during the winter.

It's available at TSC and other hardware stores.

I agree with the dryer sheets

The one thing I have heard about the dryer sheets is bounce is the only brand that works. I have used bounce and fresh cab in my cars and haven't had a problem but I also put out a lot of poison to help also. If you don't have any pets to get at it and it doesn't freeze put out a dish of coca cola with fly bait mixed in and the mice will die almost instantly. My brother in law said this works for raccoons also they would die within 50 feet of the bowl.
