1959 MF 65
Okay, I am very confused about the styles of hood on the MF65, and the variety of emblems - particularly as they relate to the years of the tractor.

I cannot find any definitive explanation as to how the hood/nose design changed over time (between 1958 and 1964).

For instance - on my tractor (which I do not yet have in my possession), it's a gas engine, I am guessing 1959, but will verify when I get it here, the hood is missing the emblem and I am trying to figure out which style it should be.

There is this style, a long hood (like mine) w/o ornament/scoop:

Then, there is the long hood with red bird:

Then, there is the long hood with chrome bird:

Then there is the long hood with scoop/screen:

And then the short hood style, not like my tractor:

Does someone know how these various designed break down by year or variation? For instance, with some aftermarket sheet metal sources, they just list a "MF65 hood" but it's the wrong style hood for my tractor.

I am very confused.

The different emblems could be the variation between the years. Where the tractor was built....

The model of the 65 with the square logo like in the last photo I believe is built by Ferguson but labeled as Massey Ferguson.

Somebody on here will probably be able to answer your question with better detail.

The first 2 are an early style. Why chrome & painted I'm not sure, I've seen just painted myself. The square one is the later style, Serial # 685394 and up. The last one is a mystery to me. Looks like an overseas version.
Your tractor appears to be an early one, that's why the hood is different.

Thanks guys.

I guess I am used to the automotive world where everything is pretty straight forward based on year. It seems like tractors are a little more like bombers rolling off the WWII assembly line, no two were exactly the same. ;-)

Based on what you're thinking on the last one, MFRED, That tracks with what I've observed with the British MF's.

I should have the serial number in the next couple of weeks, and that'll probably solve my mystery.

Thanks again!

Thanks to DJ54, I now have access to the AGCO online parts books.

They do provide the breakdown for serial ranges and the difference between the gas/LP, orchard, and diesel models!

MFRED - you were exactly right. Thanks!

Hi, 1959 model should look like your second picture, built in Racine Wi. as your dash tag will state.I believe in 1960 is when they changed to style of picture 4.Congrats they sure are pretty when painted and totally reliable.
