So heres one I cant quite figure out. When I try to start my Massey 35 it doesnt turn over and I hear a fast clicking sound (like a relay opening and closing) down in the "electronic" of the tractor.

At first I thought it was a low battery which was odd because the battery is only a month or two old. Put the charger on it for a few hours, same thing.

Put a volt meter on the starter and its getting a solid 13 volts or so. Where I messed up was in not checking amps. We all get in a hurry right?

But what might be causing the tractor to not turn over? I'm fairly confident it isnt battery so my only other thought is its something in the electrical system.

Thoughts?

Check your ground cable on the battery and the tractor. Solenoid gone bad? Ken Sweet

possible a bad solenoid as ken stated or a dirty connection at the battery or starter. a poor connection can show proper voltage in staitic, but if a load is aplied may drop to almost nothing.

I had the same problem with my 35, I had new cables made up @ my local NAPA, It started right up and I have had no problems since, It even starts when we get into the 20 degree range.

I had the same issue with my Kioti (and my Allis Chalmers ironically). Bad cable to the negative side of the battery. Easy and cheap to fix.

electrical testing of a starter. Voltmeter is required. Test from battery positive to where the cable attaches to starter. There should be less than 1/2 volt during cranking. And... You need to check the negative side as well, check from starter flange to negative battery connection, again less than 1/2 volt. the clicking you mention is related to available amperage/current, the voltage needed is there somewhat, until you ask the starter to work. Then usually because of high resistance somewhere, the current flow will be interrupted causing the click of the solenoid, if this is what is clicking. As another test you could connect to the voltage wire that enters the starter and engine. You should have approx battery voltage while cranking, if its not you have high resistance somewhere. Your task is find the problem, and yes it could be the starter. Measure the voltage and report what you find.
