Hi

I am trying to replace the tie rod ends on my straight axel non radius MF135. I am having difficulty removing them.

I have removed the nuts and I am trying to pop the ends out but they dont want to budge.

Do I have remove the whole drag link and unscrew the end out or is there some other trick. I did try a rubber mallet but they dont want to budge.

I will be changing both the front and rears on both sides while I am at it.

I have looked in the parts manual and it seems to indicate that they are held in with the nut.

If I cant get them to move I will have to remove the whole drag link from the axel and steering box arm to get the ends out.

Aby tricks or tips?

Remove nut then hit on arm near the balljoint with a hammer . Mybe 2 hits and it will jump out !

Even better to hold a small sledgehammer tight to one side of the steering arm while whacking the opposite side. Have the nut loosely installed on the rod end to keep it in place when it pops loose.

Doesn’t matter. The method works on all brands. I’ve used it on everything from an 8N to a Deere 4430. Not much different than your method except the mass of the stationary hammer increases the shock on the rod end socket.

Thanks for all the tips.

I have managed to get 2x drag links out. I do have a pickle fork its just too small I bought it to use on a car.

The last 2 tie rods are really stuck. Since I am replacing all of them would a bit of heat and quick spray with one of those freeze sprays help anything?

I will stick with the brute force methods and see if I can get lucky.

Thanks again for all the assistance and tips.
