MF135 Multi Power

Hi...I have a MF135, bought it recently and very tidy unit.
But although it goes well when in LOW reverse there is a strange noise from the gear box? HIGH ratio ok and driving forward in all gears ok? There is also a bit of noise from the box when in neutral, any ideas?

Which LOW and HIGH are you referring to? LOW/HIGH on the Multipower or the other LOW/HIGH?

BTW: my 1964 MF135 diesel has Multipower.

That noise could be a number of things--problems with the LOW reverse fork alignment causing poor gear meshing; worn bearings in the tranny, broken gear tooth or teeth. Have you checked the fluid level in the transmission/hydraulics unit? Make sure its filled up completely.
How many hours on your 135?
Any service records available?

Low/High ratio, not H/Low multi power. Yes, I've drained the oil and no sign of metal at all?
Not sure of the hours but the tractor was rebuilt by MF serviceman but gear box wasn't touched. In operating in all forward gears and high ratio reverse no abnormal noise, just low ratio reverse?
Is it straight forward removing the top plate of the box and would I be able to see the reverse idler gear from above?

After closer investigation, the noise is oly noticable in HIGH mulit-power, when I select low it goes away?

Hi! Some whines or noises can be normal in reverse . A lot of manual transmissions (Car truck or tractor ) make some noises in reverse. Good Luck! Oldmech
