MF1249 HARD STARTING AND SMOKEY

I have purchased a diesel MF1240 tractor. The tractor has about 2600 hours and is hard to start and smokey until totally warmed up.
Any idea on why it is so hard to start? The tractor has glow plugs and an electric fuel pump. Once warm the tractor produces no smoke even when the throttle is quickly advanced.

Sounds to me like it might need some glow plug work. They might be too old and don't heat up enough to assist cold starts. I will assume white smoke when you start it.
