MF1020 Hydraulic / Hydrostatic Questions

Hi,
I have an old Massey mf1020 4x4 w/ a hydro transmission and front end loader. Its been a great little machine until now. All of my hydraulics are out, pto, power steering and front end loader. The transmission still operates in forward and reverse and in all three speeds.
No one around here works on these things so I need to trouble shoot it Myself and start figuring out the problem. Don't even know where to start.
My first question is does the hydro unit actually provide the drive or pressure for the pto or the rest of the hydraulic system?
Second, what exactly does the hydraulic pump do? Does it create the pressure in the system or just move the fluid?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, advice or otherwise would be appreciated.

The hyd pump provides flow, and the hyd components develop the pressure.

Check fluid level.

Did you lose prime?

Is your pump even turning?

Thanks for the reply. Fluid levels are good and have never been low so I don't think it lost the prime. Not sure if the pump in turning but I'm going to pull it this weekend and look at the drive gear.
I do remember hearing a sort of chirping noise just before the loader lost pressure so it might be that. But it seems like it was coming from lower rear right side which makes me think it may be in the hydro unit.
I'll start with the hydraulic pump first since its the easiest to get to.
