Hello,

I have heard two different MF dealers complain about MF tractors being built in some underdeveloped countries,(Turkey, Brazil etc.) as opposed to the same model tractor being built in Europe.

Is there any difference?

I understand there are different manufacturing requirements for each country, some stricter than others but we are talking about the same company, just in different places, aren't we?

Just wanted your thoughts and opinions?

Thanks,

BDC

Two models of the 400 series are made in Turkey, and the rest of the 400 series are made in Brazil. Being made in these countries do not make them lesser quality, it makes them lesser money. The same manufacturing procedures are available to any company in any country, it just depends on the company imploying the same build procedures in these countries as they do in Europe or the US. Some companies are bringing componets to the US that are casted in China, that are used in tractors built in the States. I would not want to say who, it would give some of the Deeroids on this forum a heart attack. The 400 series Masseys are being sold in hard core farming and dairie operations and being used on a daly basis. They are a good simple rugid tractor that have held up well.

Those that think Turkey is an underdeveloped country need to think again. Turkey is a well developed European style country. It is not third world.

Thanks for your replies.

Maybe underdeveloped was a poor choice of words. I was just trying to distinguish these two countries (Brazil & Turkey) from the european countries. European countries typically have higher standards for manufacturing. (ISO, etc..)

I have a 251xe (earlier 400 series). It was made in Brazil. I bought used and have had no problems in two years.

I had a dealer tell me I should only by the MF's made in England. I have never seen a 200 series or 400 series made anywhere other than Turkey or Brazil.

Just want to hear everyone's opionion or hear from some other guys with the same tractor.

Thanks.

The Coventry factory, in England, was sold off by Agco to housing development, there are no MF tractors built in England. The Perkins engines, owned by Caterpillar, are built there, and those engines are going to be replaced, in Massey tractors with A Sisu engine.

Brian, will be in your wonderful county again in about three weeks! Love it! On the tractors, many of the parts might be interchangeable with what we use here except for the safety systems. Just need to know the model you have and should be able to find the same model here.

I have a 2004 MF 461 and its an awesome tractor. Very strong and well built. My only issues were a thermostat that fell apart and caused some running hot issues and the rear diff lock got stuck. Other than that its a great tractor.

My MF 231 was built by "URSUS" in Poland. It's a 1998 year model. The 231 was in production from 1989-1999.
I'm not sure if All 231 tractors were made in Poland or not.

Other than the electrical system being a little 'cheap' made, my tractor has been pretty much bullet proof. It has 1,140 hours and has Never made me shrug my shoulders. Been the best tractor I've ever owned.

The diff lock on my 261 sticks too. The first time it was tight and I drove it out with a piece of angle iron and a big hammer. Lately, I just reach down and pull it up. The problem seems to be getting better.
My tractor is Polish made too.
