I recently bought an MF 65. There is a small leak of oil from the steering column. Whenever it rains, it appears that water runs down the steering shaft, through the seal, and into the steering box, causing the fluid inside to overflow out past the obviously non-functional seal. The plan is to open the box, drain the fluid, spray everything with brake cleaner, and then reassemble everything. But, the local dealer cannot locate a replacement seal to prevent the problem from recurring. Anyone have any ideas where I might find a replacement seal? Might a seal from a 165 or other MF work in its place? If so, any ideas where to find one of those? Thanks in advance.

What kind of seal?

If it's the typical rubber-coated metal outer ring, rubber inner with a spring under the rubber lip (like a wheel bearing seal) it will probably be possible to match it up by physical size.

Either consult a good parts person or go to a seal mfg. website. Another possibility might be motorcycle fork seals- there are a literally hundreds of them in different sizes, and are still readily available, even for 40-year-old bikes!

For example, this one's for a 1975 Honda...

Motorcycle fork seals -- great idea! I will look into that and see what I find.

Thanks!

If the seal you are referring to in the picture is #7, then the M-F part # would be 180575M1. I Googled the number and got more than several hits.

Here are a couple links to aftermarket parts suppliers that have it at the same price. Of course, you can copy and paste the number in your browser, and do some shopping.

Hope this helps..!!

Guess I should have added the link to the AGCO Partsbooks.

AGCO Parts Books

Enter as a guest user, then type in your model number, ie: 65, and manudacturer.. Then find any part for your 65. Copy an paste that part number to your favorite web browser, I prefer Google, and shop for parts...

Glad I could be of help..!!
