Hey Everyone- I am reposting this from the MF threads, I've gotten 140+ views and not a single reply. I hope I'm not being impatient..my apologies if so...
I just picked up this 1964 Massey Ferguson 65 diesel Mark II. Other than the usual fuel leak at the injector and primer pump, it runs well. Currently I have to jump the starter due to a failed ignition switch. I need to re-wire the whole thing, but for now I want to fix the ignition so I知 not jumping the solenoid. I understand this machine originally came with a generator, and it appears it痴 been converted to a alternator. I also understand that some alternators have a built in regulator and some don稚. I have included a few pictures of the alternator, and was hoping I could get some help. Can anyone confirm that this alternator has the regulator built in? I have the wires and connectors ready, I just don稚 know where they go. Any help would be appreciated!

And if anyone can recommend a new ignition switch, I知 open to suggestion. I see 2,3,4 post switches that are recommended. Many folks say they are cheaply built, and I don稚 mind spending money on a good one. Its hard to find good reviews on them as well. Its a diesel, so it needs to have a heating mode. 53366983389__A093F3E0-A86D-4778-A441-63EE663E8131.JPG53366983963__F4AEDB55-5688-4F1D-A21D-4A600E59E004.JPG53366984538__D6A7BC66-A15D-4C00-B555-D51A8FF85E23.JPG

Stimw, Thanks for link. Mechanically Im not bad, but electrical issues I struggle with. So as I see it, I only have one terminal, the battery "BAT" one. Im assuming the the smaller terminal I see next to the "2" and the "f" is not another terminal due to its smaller size, but I could be wrong? There appear to be three of them, but only 1 has a number/letter next to it.
So, do I link my battery, ignition switch, etc to the same single terminal labeled BAT? I'm assuming now that I don't need a regulator, and this model alternator has one built in. do you or anyone think I still need a another regulator to run all the accessories off of?

If the alternator charges the battery while it's running it must be a one wire alternator with a regulator inside. Just hook your battery and fuse block etc to the BAT terminal and it should work. If you have a voltmeter check to see if the voltage increases to about 14v on the bat terminal when it's revved up.

Those alternators typically have the internal regulator.
The small wire was probably put there by someone wanting 12 V power for something else.
