MF 5465 has several issues. Wondering if it all can be electrical.

Massey Ferguson 5465, 2008 model bought used. First issue was a couple of indicator lights on the dash that indicate a 15 micron tranny filter clogged. Then noticed it sometimes would not reverse. Simply shutting it down and restarting usually resolves this. More recently it has even travelled forward when put in reverse. Also indicated code 23, bottom of clutch switch. I guess the first time running at night I noticed that turning on the headlights put a unusual load on the engine, way more than expected. Range 4 is weak! Travelling down highway with only a bionic blade attached and even the smallest hill lugged it down. Replaced fuel filter but results didn't change. And maybe one other time than today it has upshifted by itself. Running today in 3 A and suddenly it shifted more than once and was in range 4. Earlier this week I noticed it vibrating when idling approx. 1200-1400 RPM's like it was missing on one cylinder. Last night when I stopped for a minute, centered reverser, and idled down. Went to pull off shortly after and tractor would only idle. Did not try to diagnose because it was already dark. This morning it cranked and revved fine.

Oh, it also gave a code 14 before. Today I noticed the left side of the steering wheel where the reverser is located, that the left side piece there was loose. So with all these issues, could it possibly be something electrical causing most of them, or do you think it just has it's number of problems that need to be traced down and fixed.

I am not really familiar with this tractor but what you describe looks to me like it is all related to transmission. I would start with a call to the dealer for advise. I think changing the tranny filter might be a good start. I am assuming this has some sort of hydraulic shifting transmission. If you still think it is electrical check the ground wires. Multiple electrical failures are usually ground related. Does that loose piece have a ground wire under one of the bolts?

Hi Rutwad. I also own a MF 5465 2008 model, bought used at 4600 hrs, now has 4695 hrs, I am experiencing some of the same problems, such as loss of power in fourth gear under no load. Tractor just idling. accelerator not work temporally, until ignition is switched off and then back on. Continually blowing different fuses, especially the fuse for the diesel pump. Just wondering did you get any feedback from your request for info on the matter.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

My friend said the vent line for the fuel tank was clogged causing loss of power in 4th gear. That is the only thing so far. I am still trying to get a list of trouble codes and what they mean for the Dyna 4 transmission.

Tractor is still weak, most noticeably in 4th gear. And after a couple hours of use the dash direction indicator lights show both forward and reverse, but the tractor will not move.

Ideas?

Sounds like electrical to me... Could be a sensor going bad sending several faults to other systems.

Obviously not directly related.... But I had a varmint chew a wire on Toyota Sequoia which caused a short to one of the wheel speed sensors. That in turn caused faults to the VSC (vehicle stability control), TRAC (traction control), and ABS systems.

Obviously for me, all I knew was that those systems were malfunctioning and it could've been a result of numerous components ... But a trip to the dealership showed that it was just that one sensor, and once replaced, all was well.

A trip to the dealer would be a good start...

I had the same problem. They ended up replacing the fuel injectors for big money and I got the 5465 home and did the same thing. It was some electrical wiring pinched or something in or around the fuse box or steering column. I don't know as I was so pissed that I spent thousands of dollars for no reason.

I have no experience with that Dyna transmission, but this whole situation MIGHT suggest mechanical linkage issues. Especially since you get some indications of both forward and reverse at the same time. On my MF2660 there is for sure inter-connection of some kind between the clutch and the shuttle. I had a split pin go one time and could only move the tractor in one direction. With lack of power at times it sounds like multiple problems too. I hate to throw in a towel, but unless someone of the TBN folks comes up with a grand suggestion, I think I'd get to the dealer at least for a diagnosis and get the overall scope of the problem. Those 5400's have a good reputation from what I have heard.

Well I have 1 and my neighbor has 2 of the MF 5465. The one not producing much power was his. He said the vent line was clogged. I haven't been on it since to know if it's better. Wait, I did get on it last week. Pulled out from under the barn and no throttle. It only idles. It did this in the past on occasion, sometimes just by stopping (not shutting down) the tractor then going again. I'm guessing electrical. I will post what he finds there.

Hey Rutwad, I have a 2006 MF 5465 having some of the same problems that you were having with your 5465. My main problem is no throttle when it's cranked and only idles sometimes you can kill the tractor and then re crank it and works and then sometimes it may never have throttle. I was hoping you might have found out your problem on that tractor , I would take to the dealership but my last experience with then was not very good but sure cost a lot of money not to get my problem fixed. I hope you might have some answers they would be greatly appreciated.
