Mf 50 tlb 1975?

I bought a backhoe and am told it is a mf50, possibly 1975. I do have a couple of issues with that someone out there may be able to help with.

First of all it is a devil of a thing to steer, and when stopped can turn steering wheel and wheels do not turn until I'm moving and then constantly fighting the wheel.

The other issue is engaging in reverse and forward. It is not smooth at all and really have to push on the pedal then it will jerk into gear.

I am having problems finding a manual as there are controls I do not know what they are for and if anyone has any link they could provide I would greatly appreciate it.

S/N 9A-200923, has a 300 loader and a mf54 digger. 4cyl. Perkins runs great.

I have a c-50 ~1978 that have had the same problems. With the steering, check the power steering fluid, and belt running the pump. if fluid is low or belt is loose, you will have this problem. With the going into gear: both front and reverse operates on a spring loaded rocker that revs to engine up and at the same time engages the gear by rotating a shaft heading into the transmission. Lubricate the rockers, joints and springs with some penetrating oil then with some silicone based fluids. The sticking effect you are having now causes you to rev the motor up before that shaft finally turns to forward or reverse position to engage the transmission. This makes the transmission slam in drive. With neutral, both gear levers have a center position. Up - middle / center/ down. My MF requires me to shift the gear levers into middle/center before it allows the motor to crank.

I am having the same shifting problem with my mf30...i was hoping it only was a li.kage problem..it also has the mf54 backhoe..it is defintly a big backhoe on my mf30!
