Question #1
What are the 2 knobs under the seat for? I think they go to the 3 point hitch but what do they do?

Question #2
I hooked to our disc for the first time today and they tractor will pick it up plenty high in the front but not it in the back. I set the backbone all the way in and tried it in all the 3 holes and nothing helped. I think the backbone is too long. So i tried the backbone off of our John Deere which is shorter and i could get it short enough to get it up off the ground. But with either backbone no matter how i set it when i started disking the front set of gangs sunk in the ground then the rear of the disk came completely off the ground. So i adjusted the backbone ever way and nothing helped. It seems like the 3 point hitch goes to low. When you go to raise the 3 point hitch it is either up or down there is no in between? I think there are about 6 or 7 hitch postions and it does not make any upward motion till it gets to about 5. I do not have any of these problems out of the John Deere. I eneded up hooking the disk to the JD and using it. I am starting to think i made a mistake buying the MF. But i do like the MF more than the JD.

I don't know what the second knob is for but one of them is to set the rate of drop speed for the implement on the three point hitch.
I don't know what you are calling the backbone.
What you need to do is make the third arm, the single arm that mounts from the top of the disc to the tractor, longer. Twist the middle to make it longer or shorter in this case make it longer. That will level the disc out.
The numbers are just there for your future reference. When you get everything set up, then you know you are at the same depth if the lever is at say a 3 this pass if it was at a 3 the last pass.
Do you have a owners manual?

1. The 1 knob is to set the rate of drop the other is for draft sensitivity control.
2. If you can only get up or down, no positions in between it is in draft mode not position mode. Me thinks you need to spend a little time with your owners manual, I know reading is less fun than doing, but some times we have to do it.

Yeah, the 3pt is just not set properly. It's not a "brand" problem. Sounds like the top link isn't the right length and the draft isn't set up the right way for your harrows.

I wish i could read the manual but i bought the tractor used and i do not have an owners manual. I am not blaming it on the brand i was just frustrated when i was writing that. I like the tractor better than the deere except for that one issue.

You should contact a Massey Dealer and pick up an owners manual, or try to find one online. That tractor has a lot of nice features, you'll be pulling your hair out figuring them out by trial and error.
But have fun playing with it, I'm sure you'll figure some things out. There should be a handle near the 3pt lift handle that controls the draft function.

I'm gonna short hand it a bit cause I'm not a typer

"A" lever being the front or closest to the operators platform - Position Control Lever
"B" being the rearward lever- Draft Control Lever

Mounted Implements:
To adjust working depth, move in the following order:
Lever "A" Forward
Lever "B" Forward
drive forward and adjust Lever "B" progressively to obtain desried depth

Operations:
At the end of the run move lever "A" back to lift the implement

At run start, move lever "A" forward to send implement into operation
To maintain the same depth don't move lever "B"

When adjusting draft control, the sensitivity knob, on the right hand side of the tractor, remains open
Note if the rear of the implement raises too much, raise the top link mounting hole position. Reverse if it doesn't lift enough.
The other knob under the seat adjusts rate of drop.

Thanks for all the info. I have just never had to use the draft function for anything. We have always left them in the down postion and went about our business.

I just picked up the operators manual for my MF 175 from the dealer and was surprise that they only ran around $12. Well worth the money in my opinion. Of course they did make up for it on the parts manual $65 (ouch).

I called the dealer today and the operators manual for that tractor is $50. I think i am gonna play with it and see what i can figure out before i drop $50 on a operators manual.
