Where does the voltage regulator go on a U.S. MF 35 diesel?

I'm trying to wire gauges, but my tractor has been converted to an alternator setup. Do I still need a voltage regulator with an alternator?

Most people that do a generator to alternator upgrade use an internally regulated, single wire alternator. How many wires come out of your alternator? If it's one, then it is internally regulated. Also, how many volts does it put out? If it's a steady amount above battery voltage, then it's regulated. Is there something that makes you think it's not being regulated? We may need more info/pics of the setup.

It's a 3 wire delco alternator. I just got a new one since the old wasn't charging. I learned that these alternators have internal regulators. I've been reading that these alternators need a warning light installed. Is that true? Also, the new alternator has a much smaller pulley which I imagine will make the alternator spin faster. Is this okay? The crankshaft pulley is a little over 6 inches in diameter while the pulley on the new alternator is 2.5 inches.

You should be able to just swap the pulleys from one alt to the other and then not worry about increased cranking speed. Good luck. I know nothing else about whether it needs a warning light or not.

The dash light might also send the exciter voltage to start it charging?

I'm going to use the new pulley for now with a smaller belt. The diesel models use an oil pressure switch which I believe does the same purpose but I am thinking about putting a diode to prevent back flow from the alternator when the engine is shutting down. Is this necessary with the oil pressure switch?

Don't worry, an alternator is good for about 10 000rpm. These engines would only get it to around 4000rpm with those pulley sizes. That's what I used on a 3cyl Perkins too. :)

BTW, Best Wishes for Christmas and the New Year to all and their loved ones.
