Massey Ferguson 35 Deluxe
I recently bought a '60s model 35 with the continental z134 engine, the clutch, which worked okay at first, no longer disengages fully. I have to turn off the engine to get it out of gear or to stop the tractor. I have'nt heard any noises which would indicate a bad throwout bearing. The manual says that an adjustment can be made by removing the clutch pedal shaft and turning an adjuster inside the gear housing with a long screwdriver. Does anyone know if this adjustment would work or will i have to split the tractor to get at the pressure plates and throwout bearings?

Thanks

Oops, just re-read the manual, a bar through the hole on the end of the clutch shaft is used to turn it after the pedal is loosened. Also it may be a TO-35 but it is definitely a deluxe (ground pto). Sorry about the goof, it's late and i'm sore from riding up a pile of logs and debris while standing on the clutch and both brakes. I'll get out there tommorrow and try the pedal adjustment.

Tater:

It depends. How much free pedal clearance do you have?

The exterior linkage adjusts the free pedal clearance only. It should be about 1".

If the clutch is not worn out, it can be adjusted externally from below wut it takes time patience and the proper tools.

If it is badly worn neither adjustment will be of much help.

I went out and adjusted the pedal today and that did the trick. Seems the clutch does'nt disengage untill the last 1/2 " of travel before the pedal hits the footrest. I will probably need a new clutch and adjustment soon because with the two stage, it should disengage the wheels halfway down, then pto/hydraulics all the way down.
I checked out yesterday's tractor , that is a good forum, Thanks

My clutch is sliping. Can I clean it or does it need replacement? It is the dual clutch type on a model TO35
