mf 204 keeps braking starter nose cone WHY please help

please help I have replaced starter 3 time over the years and it brakes a starter about every year or 2 I was just wondering could it be the wrong gear on the starter not meshing with the teeth on the flywheel flywheel looks to be in good shape starter bolts are always right any help or suggestions would be appreciated thanks in advance

Sounds like an old Chevy in need of shims. Old Chevys had shims where the starter mounted. Not shimmed enough, they could break teeth on the flywheel, starter, or crack the starter housing. Shimmed too much, it'd round the teeth off the gears.

If you had improper gear on the starter, the flywheel wouldn't look to be in good shape. Especially after going through 3 starters.

There should be a thrust washer on the shaft where it goes into the nose cone.

Make sure that all of the teeth on the flywheel ring gear are in good shape.
