Need a little help. I have a 2013 MF 1635 with hydrostatic transmission. When running implements, mainly a 6' finish mower, I set the rpm's at the 540 mark on the tachometer. When I'm mowing in low speed range, turtle I reckon, the tach needle rides up above the 540 mark quite often. Does this mean the mower is now running too fast or does the rear PTO stay at a constant speed regardless of what the tach is reading? Pulling hills it's difficult to keep the rpm's where it shows 540. In the turtle range it wants to run faster and in the middle range it lugs down lower. Which would be best for the mower's sake?

This happens because of the linked throttle. You are pushing the foot pedal to get more ground speed, but this increases RPM's if you let it. Figure out what ground speed keeps your RPM's below 540 and don't travel above that speed in low range ... Easy.

And yes, it means that your PTO is above 540...

I was afraid of that. Thanks for the information. I really like the looks of your 1652!!

Thanks!

And... If you watch the dash gauge, it'll show you the actual PTO RPM's. I honestly don't think you'll harm anything by going slightly over 540 PTO speed. When I run a PTO implement in low HST range, and I go as fast as I can in low (around 3.5 mph I believe) it pushes my PTO RPM's up to around 570'ish. It's really not that much over 540. Roughly 5%

OK. Thanks again. I mowed today and kept an eye on it and it didn't go up but to about 2700 rpm's from the approximate 2400 for the 540 pto speed.
