I just signed a contract for a new MF 1533 8X8 Power Shuttle with FEL 1525 and a Howard R300B-150 tiller from an Oregon dealer. I paid $20600. Will the 8X8 allow the tractor to go slow enough for proper tillage? I just started looking at these post in depth and now I think that I paid to much for this tractor and attachments. Also it looks like I should have gotten the 12x12. Comments please.

The 8x8 is a SynchroShuttle. The PowerShuttle or a DynaQPS are both 12x12. I have had a SynchroShuttle and now have a PowerShuttle. The SS was nice, but the PS is fantastic. Besides with the PowerShuttle, the clutch will last forever. The next tractor that I buy will have the DynaQPS. I haven't really kept up with prices for a couple of years, so I can't help you there. I am sure no matter which one you get you will like it. It sounds like you may be getting a case of buyer remorse.

You are correct . I am having a little bit of buyer's remorse. I have spent quite of bit time trying to decide on which tractor to buy and now I think that there are alot of questions that I should been asking that I did not. It may not be to late to change from a 8x8 synchro/shuttle to the 12x12 power shuttle though. I would be very thankful for any advise on which is best, and why.

The Synchro/shuttle has a standard dry clutch that you need to use to start, stop and change gears. The PowerShuttle allows you to start and stop without the clutch. To start and stop, you just put the lever in forward or reverse and go, no clutch. If you have a heavy load or a big plow in the ground, you do need the clutch, but that is only time. I have had both and they both do a good job. It does save some legwork with the PowerShuttle and you will not ever wear the fluid clutch out. But, having said all of that, it is more complicated and does cost more.

We have a 1533 with the 12x12 power shuttle and really like it. We considered buying the 8x8 to save some money but I'm glad we went ahead and got the 12x12. The low range is great for creeping up on stuff when using the FEL. With the lowest gear in the low range the speed is so slow that we can take a pallet load right up to the door of our home and get to within 1 1/2" or so of the structure. We are just moving into the new house and it sure makes it a lot easier to move stuff in that way rather than using a dolly to take furniture up a few steps on a dolly. In a couple of weeks we will be putting a tiller on the tractor and I imagine the low range will really be nice for it too. This is our first tractor so I've never had one without the power shuttle but I use it all the time doing FEL work and it sure does save the clutch. John

JPL, I should also mention that the 1533 is a great tractor! We couldn't be happier with the one we bought and I think you will be really like it regardless of the transmission you decide to go with.

JPL,
I had a MF 1250 for almost 4 years and over 1200 hours. It had a dry clutch and I never did have any problems in that area. MF replaced the 1250 with the 1433, which is now a 1533. You will be happy with the present tractor and it will give you many years of reliable service. You wanted to know about the differences and that is all that I was trying to do. If you don't have anything that requires the tractor to go 1/4 mph or so, then the 8x8 will work just fine. The difference between the 8x8 transmission and the 12x12 or even the 16x16 is basically the creeper gears. Most people never even use gears that low.
BTW, We don't have any pictures of this tractor, do we?

JPL,
I got a used 1433v about a month ago with the 8X8 synchro shuttle. I have used a single 14" plow and large disc to work about a 1/4 acre (so far, more to come) and had no trouble at all. In 1 low 2WD the tractor had no trouble at all, and I had the plow set 6-10" deep. I have never run a roto-tiller, so I don't know what type of affect that has. Hope this helps. Don't forget pictures when she arrives!

After a great deal of discussion with my wife and life long partner she convinced me to get the 12x12 Power Shuttle. It has been ordered and is due to arrive sometime this Friday. The dealer just happened to have one in stock. I will try to post a picture soon after it arrives.

Jerry, John and Mark,

Thank you for your input. You made it easier for us to decide which one to go with as far as the Synchro/shuttle versus PowerShuttle.

Thanks again. Jory
