Short version - I busted a hydraulic hose. Not sure how much fluid was lost, and the only measure for the tranny/hydraulic fluid is the sight glass in the rear. Finding a perfectly flat spot to check the fluid level is near impossible. Slightly off level in any direction will indicate either a full sight glass or completely empty sight glass.

What is the best way to insure I have the correct amount of fluid in the transmission?

Park on a flat surface. Other than that, guess.

If you're off level, lift the front with the loader? a quart or 2 either way would be close enough with the 8 gallon capacity.

Used the loader for front to back level, but side to side changes the picture as well. And I mean one to two inches difference in elevation. Just don't want to take the chance of over/underfilling.

Blocks under the tires to level the tractor. When is the last time you changed the fluid?

Thanks for the replies. Using a 4' level, I blocked up a rear tire for side to side level and used the loader to level front to back. Fluid was in the middle of the sight glass.

All fluids were changed last year...and about 1-1/2 gallons were replaced after fixing the hoses.
