First off, this isn't a restoration for a show tractor. After several years of borrowing my dad's Kubota L2350 to use on cleaning up my land I had to jump on this deal. This had belonged to a good friend's grandfather and only used to field mow at their weekend place. A 1974 MF 135 diesel with 1128 original hours for $3800 including a 5 foot mower (have since replaced it with a 6 foot Wallace which will probably be a future post).
Now I don't have much of a mechanical background but this is something I've always wanted to do. After testing everything I realized that really all it needed was cleaning, painting, and fluid/filter changes. Being the son of a perfectionist, it was hard to do everything knowing that this had to be used and not completely babied when done. It did have some special meaning to me since I could remember being about 6 or 7 and mowing on my dad's MF 35. I think he was just as excited about it as I was.
Excited, but nervous. As more things started being removed, and a few pictures shot, I started to question could I really get this thing back together not to mention running that way it did. During the 3 months I went through this and another site almost daily. I also used Big Dean's cd even resorting to calling him a couple of times....he is a Massey genius.
The major replacement list:
front tires
sanded to bare and repainted with Dupont Centauri
all fluids and filters
seat
every nut and bolt on all body panels
emblems
front spindle bushings
exhaust system
lights
PTO bushing
stabilizer arms
And lots of degreasing and power washing then going back with a stiff toothbrush.
I know. Hurry up with the pictures. I only wished I had one of the look we both had when it finally started back on the first crank.
Thanks
Thomas
