I just got a 1250 with FEL and BH. Both seem to operate very slowly. Is this normal or am I expecting too much? Have operated Kubota 121 excavator and other tractors.

You state that you have used other tractors, so I assume that your setting your engine RPM higher than idle? The loader on my Massey 1040 operates slowly at idle but runs fine when the RPM is bumped up to 1500. Just curious what RPM your using?

JerryG,
Thanks for the help. I am running the RPM's at 2800. The hoe seems to be operating as if the machine were idling slowly and is also weak. The front end loader is also slow. I do have an older Long 445 with FEL and have operated a Kubota 121-3 evcavator. Also tried out a MF 1240 with backhoe and PTO pump. This tractor has power beyond and two remote outlets. Seems like I do have a problem. So, I will check maximum pressure. But the slow movement is under no pressure so, I must have a volume probmem.

Your welcome. Has the filter been changed recently and what kind of fluid does it have? I would say that something is wrong with your plumbing or an obstruction is in the lines somewhere if the filter and fluid is all right. It will be slower than the excavator, but should still operate at a good speed. I did have a MF 1250 with a 1217 BH.

The old 1217 backhoe could be ordered with an optional PTO pump to help speed it up. The main hyd pump only puts out about 5 - 6 gpm on that tractor which is fine for the loader, but could be a bit slow for the backhoe.

The PTO pump output was 6 GPM, the tractors output is 6.7 GPM. BTW. the pump with complete kit number is 5269 903.

Thanks for the information everybody. I did check the pump pressure and it was 1950 psi under max load and 1800 RPMs. Increasing the RPM did not increase the pressure which is very close to specs anyway. There is a strainer in the suction line where it attaches to the trans housing. I will clean it next but that might be in a couple of days.

You need to have 2133 psi.

Problem solved. Maximum pressure is a little low but pressure does not affect the speed of movement when not under load as when moving the boom from side to side. The tractor has 575 hrs and the tranny has been worked on for some reason so I would have thought the hydraulic stainer had been cleaned: it had not been cleaned. A slimmy looking substance with the apperance of aluminum covered the strainer along with some small metal chips perhaps from a previously broken gear. Now the boom moves 30 to 50 percent faster.
Some advice on removing the strainer. Strainer comes out on the left side. Mine was stuck and even after rotating it and prying I ended up breaking it. Removed suction line and drove it out from the opposite side. I could not install the new strainer due to the lower support bar for the backhoe being about 25 mm too close, therefore not allowing a straight in placement of the strainer which is about 150 mm long. I used a floor jack and jack stands and my other tractor with a FEL to slide the hoe back to allow it to lower. Remove the backhoe before draining the fluid.

Great! It's good to hear that you got it back together and working right.
