I just got back in from looking at one, and would like to hear what you guys think. The one I looked at is a mutipower, with the duel rear remotes, has a cab and 7200hrs. Its in very good shape, minus a few issues:

1. The rear 3pt will not move up or down. You can use the lever inside and it doesn't seem to do anything. Could this mean the pump is shot? The guy says the rear remotes work perfectly and there is evidence they were recently used.

2. The start solenoid seems to be sticking, it has a new battery in it but it clicks many times before the solenoid will finally engauge. Not a big deal right?

3. Also checking the oil while the tractor is running it seems fine. However when my buddy checked it with the tractor was off, it looks like there might be evidence of some water in it. Possibly a small head gasket leak? or is it possible that it could have been a built up of condensation in the motor. The motor idles and seems to run/drive perfect without any smoke.

Those are the only 3 issues I could find with the tractor, any advice you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Ryan

1080, and later 1085 had issues with block-to-head sealing. head gasket failure was common. IIRC, MF solved the problem by O-ringing head. That was the 318 cu in 6-cylinder (???) Good engine otherwise....

1000 series hydraulics are different than the 100 series I'm more familiar with. I'm thinking that tractor had a primary and auxillary pump. ALL 1080's were MultiPower equipped. (That means two pumps) But....I'd bet on a control issue rather than a failed pump.

Farmwithjunk, I appreciate the reply! The engine in this model was a 4cylinder perkins diesel, so hopefully its not included in the head gasket issues. I had no clue that there was two pumps. Thought that there was only one that ran everything. Any idea where the aux pump is located? in the rockshaft as well? I just found out that the remotes and 3pt are on seperate pumps so what your saying makes perfect sense.

Also I think you might be right with the control valve, if I do end up buying it thats what I will be hoping for, but I don't believe you have access to it without removing the cab first.

btw any idea what a tractor like this might be worth thats in good shape?
Thanks!
