First off, calm dow.. 'stuff' happens.

Nowthen.

do you have a service manual? tools? are you generically 'handy' ?

if you answered yes to those.. it will likely only be a temporary pain in the wallet as you hit yer dealer, get the bearings and seals needed to fix her up.

since it's 4wd.. it will be more spendy than 2wd.. might involve some shafts and split rings and such.. probably a front sump flush, and the biggest expense may depend upon the condition of that front spindle, and if the hub died or the spindle or both.

obviously things like a floor jack, stands and cribbing will be needed..e tc.

Thanks for the quick response. I have some limited mechanical ability and tools, however I do not have a service manual or parts reference. Unfortunately the wheel came off while in the woods and in an area where a tow removal is not likely. Do you have any suggestions on how I can temporarily reattach the wheel and get it moving? If not, any suggestions on where I can obtain a parts diagram and service manual?

Thanks.

Years ago i had a smaller MF 4wd and the front seals and bearings went kaput. Its not really a big deal to repair. I went to the local MF dealer showed him the parts i needed on his microfich screen, he ordered the parts and gave me copies of the front end so i knew what part went where, it too fell apart. the first side took about 2 hours. The other side was about an hour with no special tools. The only painful part was the parts price. My advise, get the parts breakdown from the dealer and study it, take your time and you'll make out fine! Remember it was put together by somebody and they started at one time, never have did it before . . .John

Thanks for the info and vote of confidence John. I will do just as you advise, starting with getting a parts diagram and disassembly to see what is damaged and what is salvagable. Sounds like this is something I can tackle and in this day and age that is music to my ears. Parts alone are expensive enough. I'll keep you posted on my progress!

I busted up a Mitsubishi made front drive pretty extensively once (five gears, three bearings and two bent shafts) and was able to do the whole job myself. The parts were very spendy. Twelve pounds of parts cost $2000.

Does it have a front end loader on it?
If so you can put the bucket level put it in 2wd lift front end off the ground and limp it backwards to the road shop etc

That, or get a rolling wheel under the bucket. Good idea. Could steer some with the brakes.

jack the front gimpy side of the axle up... wedge the axle pivot with a piece of wood wedge, or whatever shape it needs to be blocked with to keep the axle from pivoting down.. gently release jack.. that should keep the bad paw off the ground. if you have a loader, lift the bucket a couple inches.. if something gives way.. the loader will catch you.

now take it slow and get out of there doing the least amount of turning and aggravtion to the steering axle as possible..

Thanks for the helpful suggestions folks. I am in process of getting parts lined up and found the "front wheel hub assembly" to be the most expensive so far. (600.00 +) The good news is that it is still available, not bad for almost 30 years old. My first order of business is going to be disassembly as due to terrain issues, getting it out may be more of a challenge than I can muster. At any rate, as soon as the snow stops I plan to fully assess the damage and get the parts on order... Any suggestions on a good source for a used hub assembly, Massey Ferguson Part# 3439235M91?
