I am going to buy a metal pro ironworker. I am always building somthing and am getting tired of the mess from cutting with the torch or plasma and then grinding. The punch on it should make making holes a lot quicker also.I can also add an 8" brake to it. It is a 40 ton unit. Does anyone have one. Are you happy or unhappy with it.

I don't have a metal pro, mine is a Scotchman, but you will love having an ironworker. If you do a lot of fabricating, it will save you a lot of time. I probably use the shear the most, with the punch being a close second.

You have the cadillac of ironworkers. I have a couple of questions for you. Does the metal distort when using the shear. Can you punch and shear aluminum.

I am buying a factory demo with the shear and punch dies. It is my christmas present to myself. They arent cheap($2800) but if you fabricate alot it will be worth it. It should last a life time.

I have two Scotchman, a 35 ton and a 50 ton. The 50 ton is a 1980 model and works great 35 ton is 1983 also works great. I found both of mine used and got real good deals on them.
The more you use them the more you find you can do with them.
The problem with aluminum is the knives need to be closer than for steel but you can set it up for it.

OOOOH, I'm jealous. I never paid much attention to just how versatile these are until I saw one in action. $2800 is nothing to sniff at but that really doesn't sound too bad. I do think one would last a life time and the long term return makes it worth every penny. I have also noticed they bring high dollar at auction so I don't think you will have to worry much about depreciation....like you'd ever sell it!!

Congratulations and enjoy!

try searching for "JAWS IV" thats four and EDWARDS iron workers, I have used both and are fine units for price. We started out with the JAWS V which cost about 4300 when NEW 97 or 98, then stepped up to the EDWARDS back in maybe 02 or 03. Both units were good and lasted well we got trade in on the JAWS for 3/4 what we paid and it was pretty used at that point, as we were running production of industrial machinery...

I picked up a 2005 Uni-Hydro about a year ago. Up untill 3 years ago I had never heard of an ironworker. Well it is the handiest little machine. My main project so far has been the construction of a FEL for my BX. It has come in handy for many other smaller projects. I built my own brake for it as you can see in the pics. (click link below)
Bill, needless to say I'am very happy with mine.

I ordered the Ironworker today. I did a little dickering and got them to throw in the punch set if I bought the 8" brake. Now I should be able to create anything my warped mind can think up. I will post some pics when it shows up. Hopefully It will be here by the weekend.
